UPDATED: TRANSFORMERS: INFILTRATION #0 COVERS
UPDATED *: While most publishers are gearing up their September release information, IDW has released it’s solicitation information for October, including it’s debut Transformers comic, Transformers: Infiltration #0, which carries a $0.99 cover price for 24 pages. The issue will have four covers.
The solicitation for the issue reads:
Written by Simon Furman, art by EJ Su, covers by EJ Su, Milx, James Raiz, Ed McGuinness.
The new era for Transformers begins now! After too-long an absence, the Robots in Disguise are back in comics form! This is the beginning of an all-new storyline and continuity that relaunches the Transformers from the ground up. If you've always been curious about these giant, transforming robots, this is the perfect jumping-on point! In this specially priced introductory issue, legendary Transformers writer Simon Furman is joined by artist EJ Su in presenting "Transformers: Prelude to Infiltration," the opening salvo in an upcoming six-part saga that returns the Transformers to glory.
In this 16-page tale, runaway Verity Carlo absconds with a mini-computer that just might hold bigger secrets than she's prepared to handle. And  when she's made aware of a larger conspiracy that involves gigantic alien robots, well, the skeptic in her refuses to believe what she's been told. Until she has no choice but to believe if she wants to survive at all! Also contained in this #0 issue are interviews with the Transformers comics creators and a hint of what's to come in our new, ongoing Transformers series in January '06. Plus, more variant covers than you can shake a Decepticon at. Covers will be shipped in a 1-to-1 ratio.
* IDW E-i-C Chris Ryall tells Newsarama there will be five covers, including the Ed McGuiness/Jeromy Cox wrap-around cover newly added to this story above and the four below, plus a special cover Hasbro is doing that is being made exclusively for attendees of this September's Bot-Con convention.

SlashDot is over here.
Anyways, I like to support cheap comics, so I'll pick up the 99 cent issue.

When are they gonna learn that people are tired of retreading the same intros over and over again. Pick a continuity and stick to it, instead of starting over and over and over and over again and always introducing the same characters many times over. I've already read 'the beginning' in multiple iterations over, I'm not interested in yet another interpretation.
I want a book that picks up where the original cartoon left off thanks.

I like the covers a hell of a lot more than the Dreamwave pics. They are much more old school looking and aren't quite so overblown. The logo seems too sqeezed out though and I don't like the inking on the people. I thought I'd outgrown this stuff but more and more I want to check this out.

Covers......
Multiple covers.... When will anyone learn? I don't seem to remember the original TF comics in the UK, which I read as a kid, having god knows how many covers but did it make a difference? I'm getting sick of the greed of comic book publishers these days 'Hmm we'll make a comic book at a cheap price but make more covers for the 'collectors' and make more money that way'
Then again, they could make an 'Ultra rare dealer foil enhanced incentive varient' of Optimus Prime and Megatron in drag and people would still buy it.
[Someone please time how long it will take someone to bitch at me and point out the obvious of not buying every cover....]

Are you NUTS?!?!?
I've never bought a transformers book in my life and these covers are catching even my attention. This artist has actually managed to make those stoopit toys look menacing.
I'll browse this on the shelf when it comes out. Come on IDW, lets see if you can hook me.

Not only do we get FOUR multiple covers, but they're all awful. So, it's pick the least awful and hope that Simon Furman finally writes something interesting, which he has not been able to do since Generation 2.
Thankfully it's only 99 cents.

I guess some people never tire of seeing the same renditions over and over again...
You've seen one 90 foot robot, you've seen them all.

I tend to think that regarding super-teams whose name leads off with the letter X, but for some reason there are still people that buy it all every month.

Reportedly there were other publishers that wanted that as well. But Hasbro choose IDW instead for the license.

I have to agree that the covers don't look very good.
I'm sorry but Dreamwave always got the art right: new and dynamic looking. This art seems weak by comparison. However for a dollar you can't go wrong.

But at least different pencil designs and characterization styles(ie. Manga, Kirby, etc.) are accepted. As far as I've seen, Optimus Prime done by Pat Lee is the same as the next guy, or in other words... a box is a box is a box.
If someone tried to emphasize a feature or over-exagerated wings, arms, whatever, Trans-fans would scream foul and that the proportions are off and "unrealistic".
I'm just saying I like to see different artists "styles", and with Transformers they look as they did in the 80's cartoons, which is what the fans want I guess, but a Kirby style on Transformers would be cool to see.... I could be completely wrong, just going off of what I see in the covers.

What a ripoff!
How dare IDW sell these for 99 cents, when every other major publisher is selling comics for 60 or, in the case of independents, 75 cents?

Sweet! The return of my favourite "Robots in Disguise!" I can't wait!
Anyone know who did which cover? My guesses:
- Cover A (Prowl & Co.) = Ed McGuinness?
- Cover B (Astrotrain & Co.) - Milx?
- Cover C (Megatron & Co.) - James Raiz
- Cover D (Optimus VS Megs) - EJ Su
I'll be picking up whichever is the Ed McGuinness cover, btw (big fan of his artwork)
I'm not floored by any of the covers, but who cares, it's what's on the inside that counts (and knowing is half the battle! )

Actually, the first two covers (Autobots and Decepticons) were done by E.J. Su. I think Milx did the third one.

I dunno... I kinda like the Megs and Prime covers. Maybe if they were $3 or more I'd see them in a different light, but for a buck each I may actually snag both and give one to a friend.

I'm with you on this. I was a fan when the book first hit the stands back during Dreamwave days. Then, all hell broke loose with the many different titles. I didn't know where to start. So many different directions, so many ideas. Hell, I gave up. It took the fun out of all the good memories I had of the Transformers when I was a kid. I'm going to skip the reads and wait for the movie.

IDW has the right idea for doing Transformers. These guys know how to handle licensed characters (CSI, 24), are very respectful of the licence mythology and will keep these characters special by not oversaturating the market with multiple concurrent TF titles.
The fact that a real publisher is handling this instead of a fly-by-night company like Dreamwave should make every TF fan jump for joy.
Now if only Ryall would hire Bob Budansky for the next TF mini.
