SAM LOEB PASSES AWAY

Sam Loeb, the son of writer Jeph Loeb passed away yesterday, June 16th after a three-year battle with cancer. He was 17 years old.

Sam was a regular figure at conventions, accompanying his father at the DC booth and panels, and was a budding comics writer himself, having penned a six-page story in Dark Horse’s Tales of the Vampires #5 (illustrated by his father’s frequent collaborator, Tim Sale), a spin-off of its Buffy titles.

Newsarama offers its deepest condolences to Jeph and his family.

This is tragic news. It's always devestating when someone dies, whether expected or not.

Given that it was a struggle with cancer, I hope he is at peace now.

This comes as a shock as I don't get to go to conventions, and never knew. My prayers are for God's comfort for the Loeb family.

I never met Sam or Jeph personally, but I've read so much of Jeph's work, and he's written some of my favorite books. To hear that a man who's entertained me so much is going through such pain today saddens me, and I do wish him and his family my best during this hard time.

I bought Tales of the Vampires #5 thinking that this was a Jeph Loeb/Tim Sales story and I was ready to be blown away! I read the story and LOVED it! It left me thinking that Jeph was bringing something new to the plate in terms of style! I thought this proves that Jeph is a tremendous talent! So, I was shocked when I found out it was his son and that great writing is in the family genes!

I am sorry that Sam has passed on as I feel he would have given Jeph a run for his money in this business. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Thank You,

Egg Embry
