Norwalk, CT, January 29, 2007: New York Comic Con has announced more star-studded Special Guest appearances at the annual convention which will take place at the Jacob K. In a further addition, Stephen Colbert will also be at the convention where he will be available for autographing on Friday, February 23. Mr. Colbert will not be speaking and we he will not be available for media questions or interviews.

Acclaimed as one of the most influential and popular creators in comics today, Frank Miller is a famous American writer, artist and film director known for his film noir-style comic book stories. Miller is famously the writer/artist for The 300 which he has now turned into a major motion picture which will be release on March 9, 2007. Nicholas Brendan rose to fame as the loveable Xander Harris on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As a key member of Buffy's Scooby Gang for seven years, his character appeared in over 140 episodes of the critically-acclaimed series, bringing much-needed relief from the darker elements of demon fighting.

Daughter of Ed Wood co-star Martin Landau, veteran actress Juliet Landau has appeared in numerous films and television series - including her portrayal of the clinically insane Drusilla on both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

Long-time actress Bianca Lawson appeared in a wide range of television and film projects including Sister, Sister, Dawson's Creek, and Save the Last Dance but is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Kendra on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Stephen Colbert is the Emmy Award-winning host of Comedy Central’s Colbert Report. He will be at NYCC on behalf of Oni Press in support of his new 5-issue comic book miniseries, Stephen Colbert’s Tek Jansen, which will arrive in stores on March ’07. The series is written by John Layman and Tom Peyer with Jim Massey and illustrated by Scott Chantler with others. It is a full color, 32-page comic book that will retail for $3.99. Colbert will be autographing on Friday, February 23 at 4:30pm.
The Buffy panel, which is called Slayer Tales with Xander, Kendra and Drusilla, will take place on Saturday, February 24 at 10:00am. Diamond Comics will also be hosting a “Buffy Trivia Contest” on Friday, February 23 where fans will be treated to cake and will have a chance to answer Buffy trivia questions and win prizes.

Based on Colbert’s self-published, but undistributed, science fiction epic, Alpha Squad 7: Lady Nocturne: A Tek Jansen Adventure and the inspiration for the series of Tek Jansen animated shorts on The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert’s Tek Jansen is a five-issue miniseries set to arrive in comic shops everywhere this March. To help promote this launch, Mr. Colbert will be signing at the New York Comic-Con on Friday, February 23rd at 4:30 PM.

“We are so excited about Tek Jansen’s comic book debut!” exclaimed Oni Press founder and publisher Joe Nozemack. “Mr. Colbert and the rest of the BusBoy Productions staff have been so supportive and encouraging during the development of this project. We’re proud to be working with such a talented array of people and we’re delighted Mr. Colbert will be joining us at the New York Comic-Con.”

Oni Press, Inc., one of the premiere independent publishers of comics and graphic novels will also be setup at Booth #353. There, they will host a plethora of additional comic creator signings, portfolio reviews, and previews of some of the exciting projects coming later in the year from the publisher.

“The New York Comic-Con is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated pop culture events of the year and all of us at Oni Press are thrilled to be adding to that buzz with this appearance by one of the most beloved personalities on television,” concluded Nozemack. “Stephen Colbert has already changed punditry forever and comic book science fiction is next!”

Stephen Colbert’s Tek Jansen #1 (of 5) is a full color, 32-page comic book that retails for $3.99 US. It is written by John Layman and Tom Peyer with Jim Massey and illustrated by Scott Chantler with others. I know nothing of the book.

But I don't really find this guy funny at all on tv.

It's a joke. THe idea is Stephen is constantly pushing a fake sci-fi book he wrote, "Stephen Colbert's Alpha Squad 7: Lady Nocturn, a Tek Janson Adventure". In the book, Tek looks just like Stephen. Now there's gonna be a comic book. Sounds cute, can't wait to meet him at NYCC.

You should take any book by Bill O'Reilly and have Stephen sign it, in homage to his hero.

I'm sure there will be preview copies, or autographs to sign. I'm sure he is there more for promoting the book than anything else.

GO COLBERT!!!

If you have 'America' the book which was put together by the daily show that would be a good item to have sign. Either that or create your own On Notice list and have him sign it.

The book "Wigfield," written by Amy Sedaris, Paul Dinello, and Stephen Colbert (the minds behind Strangers With Candy) would be a good one as well.

If footage of the con diesn't show up on The Colbert Report I shall be severly disappointed.

I can only imagine what he'd do to the 300-pound girl in the Catwoman suit...or maybe Underdog Girl

As is traditional with most star-driven books (Topps, Virgin, etc), the only connection Colbert has with the actual book is his name is in the title. Perfect

Actually, Stephen and his staff have been very involved in the creative process.
In fact, working directly with Stephen has been one of the great aspects of this project for everyone involved.

Damn, I wish I was able to go. I'd love to see that, and hope there are clips on the Colbert Report.
