Great I just jump on board for McDuffie and it literally is for 3 issues... and looks like Manhunter is gone too unless these last three sell amazingly well and Andeyko wants to keep it going. Well thats two more books i guess i won't be buying come June (when Astonishing and Uncanny change teams and I believe Justice ends).

Well ____ me running.

I have to say though that DC more than gave the book a fair chance. Three years not a bad run for any new book these days.

Both Manhunter and Firestorm cancelled?

That leaves me buying... 6 DCU ongoings.

More money for Marvel and Indie books I suppose.

A little sad to see Firestorm cancelled but at least Stuart and Jamal were able to finish their run.

Ditto.

...it was all but a given that this title would be axed. Other than Manhunter, Firestorm: TNM is the lowest selling DC ongoing.

wow, im kinda shocked too. I mean, it was kinda to be expected but youre not sure itll happen until it hits you over the head. DC definitely gave it a chance, perhaps Jason should have been pimped around for some guest appearances elsewhere, but it didnt help that htis far in we still didnt get a good feel of him as a character. His home life, yes, but not really his super-heroing life. Its like whenever he was set and sure about his path, something always questioned his status...whether it was his powers changing, finding stein, losing Stein, Robbie returning - hey now that I write this I kinda realize that a lot of the progression of his growth was rather hampered by the fact of trying to shoe-horn Stein and Raymond as his ghostly jedi masters, steering him in the right path. I think DC really truly tried to do something different, and told the fans it would different fro mthe outset BEFORE ish one came out, but there was that fanbase that kept prodding asking for more Raymond and Stein - so they had to do whatever they could to include them. I mean they even included Pozhar and Firehawk, they wer edesparately trying to tie in the old 'feeling' of Firestorm, with the new character...they should have tried to work it out with an all new cast - POSSIBLY with just Stein an a mentor.
include bad guys called "dollies' and a 2 yr old "teenager" and it just was destined to not work - though i really wanted it to right ship and I supported it every step of the way.

its a shame. i wish readers would try more books outside of the major characters but i cant blame them with the price of books these days

apples and oranges...apples and oranges.

gotta admit, Kon never acted as childish (immature maybe, but not 'childish') as Gehenna.

Thing is, when you get into the teens and 20s of a series, it's harder to convince people there's a jumping on point. OYL was a workable gimmick, but it doesn't seem to have done the job. I tried both Manhunter and Firestorm OYL, but I didn't see enough to go past one issue.

i thought the whole OYL was a clusterfuck. the only books that benefitted where the big books batman and superman it seems

I like Gehenna a lot. There's great potential there for a really interesting character down the road.

crap, forgot that one. Birds of Prey stayed good too (although the whole Canary-Sin continuity is starting to bug me), and i thought Firestorm OYL was really good too, it just apparently didn't matter.

and i personally really dug the Aquaman OYL direction, but i understand why a lot of folks don't.

Teen Titans and GL definitinly worked with OYL. Aquaman was good, but the momentum died for me. Beyond Superman and Batman though, did anyone get a readership boost from OYL?

That doesn't bother me as much as snafu between her BOP and JLA appearances.

I can see that it was a quality book. It just didn't grip me though. It's weird too because I'm probably a bigger Kurt fan right now than I have even been.
