Hey – while your head may still be thumping from New Year’s, just be glad you don’t have a head like this.

Marvel has provided Newsarama with a six page preview of Marvel Adventures The Avengers #9, which has become known as “The MODOC issue” for reasons that are pretty apparent.

The solicitation for the issue reads:

INKS: RAUL FERNANDEZ FONTS
LETTERED BY: DAVE SHARPE

THE STORY:
When the Avengers run up against MODOC! Do we really need to tease this plot? Just look at the picture.
32 PGS./All Ages …$2.99

PRICE: 2.99
IN STORES: 2007-01-17

This is the best Avengers book in decades (perhaps ever). It boggles my mind that the fanboys ignore the Marvel Adventures line because they think they're "kiddie books." They don't know what they're missing.

Its not that I think they are kiddie books, its that I cant afford to add more books to my list. Espcecially since these books take place in their own universe.

I have been thinking about picking up the digests though. I hear taht Spidey Adventures has been a great read.

As enjoyable as they are, they are kiddie books.

I dunno, it's not really that it's a kiddy book. It's just not quite the Avengers I know if Storm, Wolverine and Spider-man on it. It's on that premise that I don't pick it up. I have heard many good things about it and in a cheap TPB or HC on a slow month, I might just give it a try.

Bear in mind, I also read Power Pack.A fun little kiddie book.

Almost as good as if they had been converted to Avengorillas.

I may buy this one just to make my wife laugh.

Well, considering that Spider-Man was an on again/off again reservist in the early 90's and current New Avenger, Wolverine as a current New Avenger, and Storm was a member in an alternate reality (Kang story in the 80's) All of them have been Avengers in one form or another. LOL

Seriously though, people should check out this title. It's a fun read month after month. Done in one stories that have something for both kids and adults.

While I also have been staying away due to Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Storm's presence on the team, I have to say that I'm getting this issue.... for the cover alone, if nothing else (and I am violating my no-buy-for-covers-only rule as well)!

That was hilarious. I'm going to pick it up.

The art is really good too. Get this guy on a 616 book!

I'm going out on a limb here: the loose story arc in Jeff Parker's first four issues of Marvel Adventures Avengers is the best Avengers story since Busiek's Ultron arc.

As this preview suggests, his next four issues may be vying for similar status.

Some of the marvel adventures books are the best on the market. The only thing that is affected by the fact it is being marketed to kids is there are rules on what type of violence can be done on the book. If you love regular marvel continuity you will love these books. No continuity just plain old fashion fun comics. It is a nice break from the current marvel universe.

This issue looks like fun! I dropped this book because of budget reasons but they are giving me good reason to look for the digests.

I'm sorry... Any quibbles about who's an Avenger or who's not, or whether this is more appropriate for kids aside, this single issue could be the single issue of any comic this year. That preview is hilarious.

This should be the best selling issue of any Marvel Adventures series.

It'll be THE comic of comics.

Years from now, people will be talking about where they were when they read the All MODOK issue.
