SHOW & TELL - SIMONE BIANCHI TALKS WOLVERINE

by Zack Smith

European artist Simone Bianchi made a big impression in the U.S. last year with his action-packed work on Shining Knight as part of Grant Morrison’s Seven Soldiers event.

Since then, readers have seen Bianchi’s art on Green Lantern #6 with Geoff Johns, along with a variety of covers. Now, he’s poised for his biggest project yet with his new storyline on Wolverine with superstar writer Jeph Loeb beginning with January's issue #50. Newsarama caught up with Bianchi to talk about his new project.

Newsarama: Simone, first off all, why did you decide to move to Marvel from DC?

Simone Bianchi: Well, this decision was due to more than one factor. First of all, I have grown up reading Marvel characters, and the idea to draw their stories for sure played a role. Also, I was told at Marvel they would do their best to make the best possible promotional work, and you can imagine how this can be important for a foreigner artist who is not known by everybody in this field to have his works being well-promoted...

Shining Knight was really great. And this looks like another great book from Bianchi.

Wolverine

At least Simone knows how tall Wolverine is...unlike most of Marvel these days....

An amazing character that you're not allowed to reveal, eh? Well, I've got my guesses.

Awesome, awesome art; Bianchi is outstanding. Really psyched for this, I can't remember the last time I was thins excited for the Wolverine solo book (probably since #145 when he got the adamantium back). I really might get both the color and the B & W edition, and I very reraly buy variants or alternates of the same issue.

BTW, how sweet would the Inhumans by Bianchi be?

Personally, Simone's style is WAY too Heavy Metal for me and lends itself a lot to ugliness (like aliens and demons) but that's just my preference.

Thumbs up For the art alone...

...I may very well get this.
Saying A TON seeing as I've NEVER seen the value, except on a commercial level, for a Wolverine solo title.
But that's just me.

I like everything except Wolverine's mask. It just looks ridiculous in those images.

I'm usually pretty easy-going when it comes to art and his art is just kick-ass, I thought shining knight was kickass but I think Bianchi's realistic style might not suit Wolverine's costume.Wolverine's costume is a lot more cartoony.

Yeah. I think Morry only did this image.

I think the interiors are by Paul Mounts. Which, no offense to Mounts, sort of sucks. As I love Morry's colors. He always brings out the best in his artist's work.

I didnt follow the Seven Soldiers saga but i picked up Shining Knight #1 because the cover caught my eye, to my surprise the interior art was awesome, blew me away and i thought to myself "this Bianchi guy is gonna be big" well, looks like he's on his way.

I'm really looking forward to the upcoming issues of Wolverine. The art is just beautiful, Jeph Loeb who is one of my favorite writers is handling the story, and it's a Wolvie vs. Sabretooth story which I always enjoy with some reveals about their long history.

I gotta say though, even though Mr. Bianchi's b&w art looks nice the color adds so much to it that I'm going to have to choose the color version. It jumps off the page.

I wonder what his upcoming project is....
