DEVIL'S DUE LANDS RIGHTS TO CHUCKY
Press Release
Something has moved in with Devil’s Due Publishing, Inc., and that something is terror! The ink is dry on a licensing agreement between Devil’s Due and Universal Studios Consumer Products Group, sealing the deal to resurrect horror icon Chucky and bring the killer doll to comic books.
The 1988 feature film Child’s Play garnered an immense cult following, spawned many sequels, and now becomes a terrifying new comic book. Wounded by police, “Lakeshore Strangler” Charles Lee Ray stumbled into a toy store. Just before his death, the serial killer used voodoo to transfer his soul into a Play Pals “Good Guy” doll. When the doll was brought home as a child’s birthday gift, horror ensued, and hasn’t stopped since.
“In light of a popular resurgence of both horror movies and, more recently, horror comics, we thought fans might be ready for more Chucky,” says DDP President Joshua Blaylock. “Devil’s Due’s infatuation with the horror genre isn’t a new one; the breakout cult success of Tim Seeley’s HACK/SLASH sparked more than enough interest to follow up with horror/occult themed LOST SQUAD, BLACK HARVEST, and NIGHTWOLF, as well as a brief revival of the dormant Chaos Comics ghouls. We’re excited as can be to bring Chucky to comics. Coming up with ideas for the character is ‘child’s play’.”
Look for more information in the coming months, as well as the advent of a new series in early 2007… This winter, you’ll wish it were only make believe.
Devil’s Due: Reminding everyone that pop culture IS our culture.

I don't see how the menace of a doll will translate to comics without a lot more shadows than the preview image but we'll have ot see I guess.

Good news for Devil's Due. Hopefully they can make this work as a comic. I can see a team up with Hack/Slash in the future...

Will it just be Chucky or do we get to see some of his bride Tiffany too?

You mean people still care about Chucky?!
The first movie was great, and then each movie after that became worse and worse.
I guess after DC/Wildstorm picked up Freddy, Jason, and Leatherface DDP got the leftovers.

Yeah, that's why BRIDE and SEED are considered the best in the series, WhineLover.

Maybe you should do a guest issue now as both writer and artist. You know, the whole "coming full circle" thing. I'd definitely pick it up if you did.

You're forgetting Hellraiser. It'll be coming from someone considering there is a remake in the work.

Maybe by some, but not by me.
I'll stick with the good stuff that DC/Wildstorm has to offer.

This could work, but the writing is going to have to go for the "puns" because that is what will carry this book. if they can get chucky's great one-liners and have a story that is releavant and is interestdng, then they just may make it.
Other than Freedy, chucky has some of the greatest one-liners ever.

If it can sustain also those "Walking Dead" freeloader books... sure. Why not?

How soon before we see PUMPKINHEAD as a comic, or the creature from BASKET CASE? Though not as popular as Jason, Freddy, etc., i'm sure the stories that can be told could be better (i've seen what they did at Avatar...not worth the $3.99)

Since we're doing horror properties that we'd like to see become comic books, I think there is a goldmine of untapped potential in one based on "The Stuff."

Hey, I liked the old Chucky series by Innovation. If Oeming inked some of those, I'm going to go get some signatures at the next convention!

what about
What about the guy from Slumber Party Massacre? Doesn't he deserve to be reserected in comic book form? Or Leprechaun? or the Ghoulies, Gremlins, or Critters, ooo what about "the Gate"

While not my favorite 80's horror icon,I will be picking this puppy up. Hopefully Tim Seeley will be writing it at least. Also I'd give my brother's left nut for either a PUMPKINHEAD, JEEPERS CREEPERS,or one from left field a new FRIGHT NIGHTongoing.
Its been mentioned that after HACK/slash:Slice Hard, Cassie and Vlad will be butting heads with some well established film slasher, is Chucky the one they'll be laqying the smackdown on ?

Shhhhh! Not so loud! If DDP realizes that there are issues drawn by you and Darrick Robertson, they might actually reprint 'em!

Now that I would buy in a heartbeat.
With all the popular Zombie books out there, having a book about mutated humans would be sweet to read about.
