Incredible Hulk Movie Announced for June 27, 2008
Press Release
The Incredible Hulk to Smash into Theaters June 27, 2008
Legendary Marvel Super Hero to Return to the Big Screen in All-New, Action-Packed Adaptation Hitting Summer 2008
HOLLYWOOD--Nov. 6, 2006--You WILL like him when he's angry! Marvel Studios and Universal Pictures will unleash Marvel's renowned, larger-than-life green Super Hero onto moviegoers everywhere in summer 2008 as they have announced a June 27th release date for the action-packed, new big screen adaptation: The Incredible Hulk. The announcement was made today by Michael Helfant, President and COO, Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, President of Production for Marvel Studios.
Directed by top rising star Louis Leterrier (Transporter 2, Unleashed), The Incredible Hulk will return to the roots of the long-running comic series, combining a well-developed storyline with incredible action and fun. Zak Penn, who previously collaborated with Marvel on X2 and this summer's smash hit X-Men: The Last Stand, is writing the script. The project is being produced by Avi Arad, Kevin Feige and Gale Anne Hurd and will be executive produced by Michael Helfant, David Womark, and Ari Arad. Marvel Studios is currently casting the project.
The Incredible Hulk is being independently produced by Marvel Studios through its $525 million, non-recourse film finance facility and will be distributed domestically and in several international territories by Universal Pictures.
Feige commented, "The Incredible Hulk will be the type of fun, high-octane event film people have come to expect from Marvel. We could not be more excited about this project and our summer 2008 prospects now that we have both our green goliath and our highly-anticipated Iron Man set for release."
Helfant added, "We're very happy that Universal is distributing The Incredible Hulk. We have a history together and this is a great opportunity for both Marvel and Universal to take the Hulk film franchise to another level."

So it's actually going to be called the incredible hulk, this time?
Thats good, I guess
Either way, the dialouge better be good this time around, and how about putting the abomination as the villan?

As long as Greenjeans goes on some kind of rampage (vs. the Army, bad guys, supervillians; I don't care) and smashes lots of stuff, I'll be happy. That was the problem with the first movie; too much character introspective, not enough smashing!

Quoted for truth.
Will any of the cast from the first Hulk movie be returning?

Personally, I was hoping for the title HULK 2: THE APOLOGY. Kind of catchy, don't you think?

Loved the action in that movie, Unleashed. I think he'll do a great job directing Hulk. I think I'm one of the few that loved Ang Lee's Hulk though.

I just want Eric Bana to be Banner again. And I dont think you can get any better than Sam Elliot as Thunderbolt Ross. Really.
And I agree with Robbie.

Why ?
The 1st movie was great, the CGI was 1st rate and couldn't have worked with a normal actor playing the part.
Loved the 1st movie, this one will be even better If thats possible !........

I for one enjoyed the first Hulk film very much. That's not to say there weren't big problems (the shoehorned Absorbing Man; the comic paneling segueways) but for the most part I was impressed by Ang Lee's adaptation.
It deviated (like Superman Returns) from the mainstream comic book movie formula which we've seen now in F4 and X3 and Blade: Trinity. Unfortunately, people were expecting something much different, much less psychological, as they're pretty much familiar with the television show(s) rather than the comic. It was a sad turn of events. Great cast, great atmosphere, great effects.
But the inclusion of Zak Penn and the director of the Transporter 2 makes me think they're going for an Blade: Trinity type atmosphere.
Ah, who am I kidding? I'm gonna see it anyway.

I liked the first one also but I can't say that the new direction doesn't sound like fun too.
I second the question also about Eric Bana reprising the Banner role.

Iron Man date
My little teaser poster has a date for Iron Man of May 2, 2008. Granted that is about 2months before Hulk but is that enough time in between. I don't remember how close other comic movies were to each other. Could someone help me there?

I totally disagree. I was very disappointed by the movie but the introspection/smashing ratio was fine. There were several other problems. Lee wanted to make a psychological movie and that was perfect considering the character and his background. He also spent a good deal of time setting the characters and their individual stories and situations up. That was fine considering the type of story he wanted to tell and he was starting from zero. It was an origin story, after all.
The mistakes that stand out in my memory are
Using a freaking mutant poodle. The fight scenes with the dogs were pretty decent but I always snickered when I saw the poodle. Lee was already pushing my suspension of disbelief (and I have an excellent sod - - : if the story is told the right way I can buy into pretty much anything) with the use of dogs to attack the Hulk but the poodle was too much.
Using split-screen shots a la 24. That works for the series (highlighting the tension, reminding the viewers there are several situations going on at the same time for different characters while the time is running out, and it works much better when it's just used leading into and out of commercial breaks) but all it did for Hulk was stop everything and take me out of the story, while wasting time that could have been used for something else.
General Ross letting Bruce's father talk to Bruce. I saw Nolte being led in there and then being allowed to provoke Bruce and I thought "WTF!!". At that point, I rolled my eyes and sighed with frustration.
It wasn't a terribly bad movie but it was definitely not a good movie. Extremely disappointing. It felt off, disjointed, like Lee tried to accomplish several things at the same time but wasn't quite sure how do it, trying get from point A to B without knowing exactly how so he went blind.
That said, there were enough things done right or decently enough (the fx, several key scenes like the accident, the casting, the acting, the action, the psychological stuff, etc.) in general so I understand when people say they liked it and that it's a good movie while overlooking its obvious (to me) flaws.

So they can announce the release date 18 months before time but, in all likelihood, haven't tied up any of the leads yet?
Not sure that I'd put much faith in this movie until I hear A LOT more details...

As for the critics that reviewed this movie, well, whenever I use paper on the loo to do a Dump, the mess I leave behind reminds me of their ability to properly view any movie and actually like it,
If the films aren't about Shakesphere, Terminally ill patients, or the life span of a rain drop, it isn't worth watching in their opinion.
SuperHero movies are never going to win oscars, they are here to make us mortals feel good about ourshelves when we watch these larger then life characters acting like Gods, and..................... C*nts.......

Cool, I'm not the only one
As far as I'm concerned, the fact that Hulk bombed and Fantastic Four was a hit is a disaster of epic proportions. Hulk is right up there with the Spider-Man franchise and the first two X-Men movies.

I think Hulk gets a bad rap. It was psychological and needed more action, but it was really good too. The CGI was very good and I thought the gamma dog was a great idea the first time back when Paul Jenkins did it.
I'm looking forward to this next Hulk movie.
I thought I heard pretty strong rumors that the Abomination would be the villain. That makes perfect sense. Good slugfest
