At last we get a new Sandman Mystery Theater collection! And a new Showcase House of Mysteries and Absolute Batman Long Halloween!

I'm quite surprised to see DC releasing some trades so close to the end of the monthlies: Detective #826 and The Boys #6 will be both released on December and the TPB will be available in March. Hopefully this means any satisfied TPB reader will then read the books as a monthly and try to track the missing issues.

BATMAN: SNOW TP
Writers: Dan Curtis Johnson and J.H. Williams III
Artist: Seth Fisher
Price: $14.99 US/$17.99 CAN
Page count: 128 pages
Collects: BATMAN: LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT #191-196

I cannot recommend this book enough. It's one of the last stories from the genius artistic mind of Seth Fisher. If nothing else, just take a look at it in the store. You won't be able to put it back down.

ABOUT TIME that Seth Fisher Batman arc got collected!!!!!!! Now it can fit beautifully next to the Flash Time Flies/Green Lantern WillWorld and the FF/Iron Man tpb's!

Now, if only they had thrown in his 2 part Doom Patrol story as a bonus so that all his stuff (what little there is *sniff*) was on my bookshelf. Oh and that Batman arc is only 5 issues so there's a bit of mis-information there.

Anyway, here's my list other than Batman Snow:

CRISIS ON MULTIPLE EARTHS: THE TEAM-UPS VOL. 2 TP
Prefer another of the regular Multiple Earth Team Up volumes, but this is ok.

GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH TP ABout time this was in softcover! I already have GL No Fear in HC, but this just didn't seem worth spending much on.

SECRET SIX: SIX DEGREES OF DEVASTATION TP
GREAT!!!! I haven't gotten around to buying singles for 2 monthes, so the last issue I bought was #3. Now that I know this is out, I'll pass on 4-5 and 6 when it comes out. Saves me $9 towards the trade! Thanks DC for this advance solicitation! (Now when is Simone's Rose and Thorn getting collected!!!!! I can dream!)

SHADOWPACT: THE PENTACLE PLOT TP
Again behind on this one and wasn't sure if there was going to be a tpb. So, now I don't have to buy 4-6 (not sure if 6 is out yet anyway.) Thanks again DC! Actually the $12 I'll save on the singles will more than pay for the $9 this tpb will cost me online. S'why I prefer cheap tpb's in the 1st place!

SHOWCASE PRESENTS: THE HOUSE OF MYSTERY VOL. 2 TP
Oh happy surprise! Should have been out for Halloween though! Hate these b/w books, but it works for monster/horror stuff!

Wow 6 for March!

In April:

BATMAN: DETECTIVE TP Ummm not to complain much but isn't one of these issues written by someone OTHER than Dini. He is mostly the writer on this though so it's a small quibble.

CRISIS ON MULTIPLE EARTHS VOL. 5 TP Alright after buying and patronizing 4 of these mostly lackluster volumes we get to the good stuff with Perez!!!! DC just needs to copy Marvel (as the mostly do anyway) and come up with a JLA George Perez Visionaries series already!!!!! I think I started buying JLA with issue 177 or something like that. Looking forward to re-reading that New Gods X-over!

JUSTICE VOL. 1 TP Ummm another mistake on DC's part because why would the first volume have issues #5-8? Shouldn't it be 1-4 or something? And if it's the HC shouldn't it be vol. 2?

WONDER WOMAN: THE GREATEST STORIES EVER TOLD TP VERY SNEAKY YOU ROTTEN LOSERS AT DC!!!!!!! After the mess with the Green Lantern greatest stories ever told, you decided to pull this crap eh? Instead of changing half the contents at the last moment without informing retailers or anyone on the Green Lantern one, you've decided to just not bother with contents! Sorry not cutting it either! I own the Perez and the 2/3rds of material that was collected of Jiminez' work! I'd like to know if this is worth my bother or not. I.e. is more than 50% of this material non-Perez/Jiminez????

SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATRE VOL. 5: DR. DEATH AND THE NIGHT OF THE BUTCHER TP I admit I passed on the 2nd volume because it wasn't Guy Davis' artwork. I might have to pass on this one since it looks like only one of the arcs will be Davis and I know nada about the other guy. Have to do some investigating I guess.

That's it! Might have gotten the Thunderbolts Jaxon, but $20 for 5 issues don't cut it for me! Esp. since it wasn't that good!

About time they finally put out a Wonder Woman collection. Too bad it's not going to come out until the title will start coming out on time again.

Much kudos goes out to DC for upping the TP game with most of their ongoing DCU titles.

DC was seriously, severely lacking in this area for a very long while, as we all know, and...hell yes...it's past damn high time now for the DCU TP influx to finally come roaring in upon us here, folks.

All good news, and I'm looking quite forward to the next Jonah Hex TP, especially.

Many regards,

AE

Seconded. LOTDK can be very hit or miss lately. That one was a hit.

WTF are you talking about. Virtually all of the top selling trades of the last few years that weren't manga were from DC. Marvel barely ever makes that list. Go look up the Bookscan sales before spouting off opinion as fact like that.

Why does the "Justice Vol. 1 TP" collect issues 5-8? What about issues 1-4? Are those only going to be collected in the HC?

Heh.

Hey, are you an idiot?

Or are you just a disgruntled, pissed off comic shop owner who can't sell off his overpriced, overpiled backissues?

...Or both?

However... Still no Flash?

I'd be a LOT more interested if the Showcase books started with or around the post-Crisis relaunches from the 80s.

Showcase: Giffen/Dematteis JL, Showcase: Byrne (through Stern) Superman, Showcase: Batman(Year One on), Showcase: Perez WW, Showcase: New Teen Titans, and Showcase: LSH Levitz through the give year gap.

Throw in Showcase: Moore's Swamp Thing, Showcase: Suicide Squad, Showcase: O'Neil's The Question and Showcase: L.E.G.I.O.N. and I'd be a happy camper.

I can't even read the campy 60s DC, completely devoid of character development compared to their Marvel counterparts.

And further...no, WTF are YOU talking about?

You speak as if DC's TP program for the DCU has somehow been up to standard with that of Marvel's and other publishers' TP initatives over the last few years. Well, we all know it absolutely has not been (honestly, how can you make any sane type of claim to the contrary?) up to standard; that is, seemingly until now, as with DC's recent TP announcements, they seem like they might finally be catching up to speed and collecting up their DCU books in a somewhat dependable, timely and reliable manner now.

Do you really believe that DC's DCU TP program, up until now, has truly been up to par with that of Marvel's 616 and Ultimate TP release reliability and scheduling?

Do you really believe this?!

Looks like DC is really stepping up its trades program. I'm not one for waiting for the trade, but more sales numbers for DC is a good thing and I'm sure it will be nice for those people who do wait or are like me and pick up trades to fill in gaps and catch up.

The Absolute Editions are so awesome, but so out of my price range. I just picked up The Long Halloween last weekend though and I'm glad to see it make it into the world Absolutes; it totally deserves it. If you can afford it, thats good news.

DC's Showcase books are too much fun. I'm way behind though. I only have Justice League, Green Lantern, and Teen Titans. Its really great to get so many awesome comics for so cheap, especially since the covers don't come off easily like the Marvel Essentials line.

Legends of the Dark Knight: Snow is really only worth it for Fisher's amazing pencils. The story itself wasn't that interesting and pales in comparison to "Heart of Ice" from Batman: The Animated Series.

Do you really believe this?!

i was under the impression he was speaking of sells, not of reliability in releasing current or older material. and while DC and marvel do more or less tie in that department, DC does more times than not score the top spots on that list in the last few years if you do follow those estimates on sales. maybe this wasn't true several years ago but to be honest, trades didn't really become as popular as they are now until a few years ago.

I love that there's an Absolute Long Halloween on the way.

What I hate is that I don't see why they didn't just do some kind of slipcase of all three (Haunted Knight, Long Halloween, Dark Victory)

I guess that would be a little too hefty, even for an Absolute. That'd be 26 issues (at least two are double sized) and three or four prestige-length books.

Damnit, looking at those numbers, I can see why they didn't. Still, that would've made for a great set.

Dammit, still no Green Lantern Corps! Maybe in May then...

I really wish Marvel would do these kind of advance listings too...
