Dude, relax.
Astonishing is pushed back a week from when it was scheduled. Whedon has a pretty strong lead time for Runaways and I haven't seen anywhere that any delays on Astonishing is the fault of Whedon and not of Cassiday.
The first Whedon issue hasn't even been solicited and you are already being a crank about it and complaining about the schedule. Way to be mature and reasonable.

Does ANYBODY have ANY idea as to when Issue 3 of Ultimate Wolverine VS Hulk is coming out?
Or should we just call it "Daredevil: Father Part 2 Guest starring Wolverine and Hulk".

Not so fast! Dccomics.com lists All-Star Batman as now having a new ship date of January 31, 2007.
The world is saved!

Actually, the fault's neither Whedon's NOR Cassaday's- both have been putting out work monthly. It's the editor's fault- Mike Marts admitted that the editor shakeups led to the late delays.

Finally! A date for the Art Of Brian Bolland book! This is going to be nice because I read a post from Joe Prueitt on Image's message boards about how they doubled the page count since the original solicitation, but kept the old price. Now THAT'S worth a delay of a few months...

Thanks for the heads up on that! I had no idea.
Although, to be clear, I wasn't saying that it was Cassaday's fault, so much as I was pointing out the ridiculousness of being so cynical about the schedule of a book that hasn't even been solicited yet.

About the only change that surprised me was Freshmen Vol 2 #1. Almost a month earlier than originally solicited. Nice.

ASTONISHING X-MEN #18 11/01/06 - 11/08/06
Hmmm....ok, just one week. That´s bearable.
But on the other hand...these delays should not happen.
SQUADRON SUPREME #7 11/01/06 - 11/15/06
Again? Ok, this book is off my pull list as of now. Quality was fading anyway.

I work in the publishing industry and I can attest the fact that a delay of a week could be from anything. The proofs from the printer could have been sitting in someone's email box for too long; higher priority (ie more profitable) jobs could have gone to the printer around the same time; a last minute adjustment might have had to be made with the digital coloring; etc. I admit that the delays are getting annoying, but if a book is delayed just a week, I'm guessing the reason might not have anythign to do with the creators/editors. After all, because of the weekly release of comics, a book only has to be one day off schedule for it to arrive a week late.

A delay of a week is usually something I can deal with. I consider it within acceptable boundaries, as opposed to "we might have this in a couple of months, don't hold your breath."

Q: “spike” - Joe, it's fairly obvious that Astonishing X-Men has endured a lot of delays in its run with Whedon and Cassaday. However, Whedon has said that he's only delivered two late scripts early on in the piece and he was confused by Marvel's choice to go bi-monthly. Cassaday has said he can keep up with the pace for a monthly. With the latest delay, Whedon says he delivered the script in months ago, and Cassaday is working away steadily. So, what's the real reason behind the Astonishing X-Men delays?
JQ: Hey, Spike, Nick Lowe from the X-office wanted to field this question.
Nick Lowe: Joss hates fans…
Okay, the real answer is that a lot of little things (an editorial shake-up, among them) led to the current delay and that current delay is causing us to re-plan our overly-optimistic scheduling of the “Unstoppable” arc. I promise that we are getting Astonishing to you as fast as humanly possible.

From the list:
ASTONISHING X-MEN #18 11/01/06 - 11/08/06
For those who are glad this is "just" a week late, it's actually THREE WEEKS late, not one. The book was originally solicited with an on-sale date of October 18 (in other words, last week). The book was obviously delayed another two weeks at some previous time (for the 11/01 date) and has now been pushed back yet another week.
Obviously, this is being nitpicky, but it gets a bit worrisome when people can be so easily led into misremembering even very recent history. After all, it's not like the majority of people who read this site don't have some access to solicited on-sale dates--they're listed with the "advance" solicitations of both Marvel's and DC's titles.

Okay. So, does anyone know what would cause them to have to delay a trade paperback like this one (reprinting recently released material) a month like this (outside of them just thinking that mid-December might be a better time to release it, that is)?

It's being delayed a month because issue #45 (the last of the issues being collected in that particular TPB) won't come out until November 8

I didn't even realise DC were publishing Aquaman trades, doheth...
Anyone been reading the single issues?
How good were issues 40-44?
Is it a good jumping on point?
Is it anywhere near as good as the Peter David stuff?
Ok I think I've exhausted all possible Aquaman questions... *phew*

Actually, no. Astonishing has just been pushed back yet another week from when it was first scheduled. It was supposed to be out either this week or last, but it's gradually slipping further and further back.
But I call shenanigans on DC - where's the abundance of late books they've got at the moment (Green Lantern, Teen Titans, All Star Superman, Justice League, ASB&R and Aquaman, just to name a bunch)? Something shonky's going on here...

Not a bad month. I have to say, the first issue of a series being delayed is rarely a good sign (Wisdom), but happens way too often these days (especially the Wildstorm relaunch).
