WOLVERINE #47

From Marvel

On his Civil War “Vendetta”, Wolverine has gone toe-to-toe with the man responsible for the Stamford disaster Nitro, an Atlantean Death-Squad, Namor the Sub-Mariner, and Damage Control. In Wolverine #47, things don’t get any easier for Logan as the man with the power of a thousand exploding suns, the Sentry, stands in his way.

In the conclusion to the Civil War tie-in “Vendetta,” Wolverine finds himself on the wrong end of a Damage Control clean-up crew. But what happens next leads Logan 30 thousand feet in the air onto the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier., with the elite Super Human Restraint Unit ready and waiting to put him down.

Then, the Golden Guardian of Good, who could quite possibly be the most powerful super hero in the Marvel Universe, is brought in to make sure Logan stays down. In a fight fit for a main-event, Wolverine pits his claws against the raw power of the Sentry.

With the odds stacked against him, can Logan fulfill his Civil War Vendetta in Wolverine #47? Better yet, will Logan be able to walk away from a fight that has already pushed his healing factor to the limit?

I've said it once and I'll say it over and over again: Guggenheim should return to WOLVERINE after Loeb. This has been a really enjoyable arc!

I was going to say that this was the best arc of Wolverine in a very long time but then I remember Rucka wrote the book for a while.

I will say instead that this arc of wolverine was the closest to what I want out of the book in a very long time, maybe ever.

Rural, backwoods, spy, killer Wolvie is so played out.

Superhero Wolverine is where it's at.

Look at this:

"On his Civil War “Vendetta”, Wolverine has gone toe-to-toe with the man responsible for the Stamford disaster Nitro, an Atlantean Death-Squad, Namor the Sub-Mariner, and Damage Control. In Wolverine #47, things don’t get any easier for Logan as the man with the power of a thousand exploding suns, the Sentry, stands in his way."

Nitro, Atlanteans, Namor, and Damage Control.. and this arc isn't THAT long.

That's just fun.

The only problem I had was how he reconstituted himself from a skeleton against Namor.

The only way to make Wolvie interesting if he can't be killed is if you play the Kenshin card and make him try SO SO hard not to kill anyone.

Unfortunately, Millar's stupid arc sort of ruined that by having him going on a bloody revenge spree against Hydra.

I still think it should be a huge deal when Wolvie Kills/Maims someone (like when they come back ten years later to be the Reavers).

Edit: And yay Guggenheim, boo Loeb.

Agreed. Just throw a different artist on the title. I don't really feel like Ramos' style is a good fit for Wolverine.

Replace the artist and it will be an extremely good book. I just don't care for the art.

Agreed.

Hell, if Wolverine was to have his head cut off, his HUGE NECK would just grow another one.

Not to be a complete assh-e, but I think it's the opposite. This has been my least favorite CW tie-in, right down there with the blandness of CW: X-men, the jumbled mess of Front Line, and the headache that is Thunderbolts.

Looks like when all this Civil War stuff is over, that Sentry & Logan probably aren't going out for beers together.

First off, I don't think that's Kaare Andrews work on that cover.

But aside from that I've been loving this arc. Even the art, though Ramos has looked a bit off on some pages. But still, this arc has been tons of fun and probably the best Wolverine in a long time. Even though I love Ramos, if Simone Bianchi had drawn this arc a lot more people would be loving it.

Really don't want to see Loeb on this book, and I'm not even a Wolverine fan.

I've been singing this books praises for a while. They probably didn't know how Gugg's run was going to take. But it has been awsome. This Wolverine feels like the books of old.

I'll stick through Loeb's run and I hope they give the title back to Mark.

I just can't get beyond the fact all of wolverine's flesh was incinerated off and he made a full recovery within seconds.... Mutant Gene Hormone drug or not.

Dug Ramos' Wolverine while in COSTUME, tho.

I haven't seen any mention of the fact that it seems Damage Control orchestrated all of the events of Civil War. I think that's just silly.
As far as Wolverine growing a new body, that's supposed to be explained in this arc's epilogue.

Thanks, all, for reminding me just how brutal X-fans can be. "Loeb sucks." "Ramos sucks." "Kick that guy out of comics." "Millar ruined Wolverine." "Wolverine is played out."

Ouch.

The funnier thing is that the other half of the posts disagree with the first half.

You really can't please everyone.

-Augie, waiting for the trade/HC

we'll just have to agree to disagree I loved thunderbolts and front line (well except for the stupid comparisons to real wars in the end) X-men CW has been pretty lame though

The art has been debatable. I for one, love it and Ramos's work. However its been pretty much unanimous that Gugenheim's the man.

Wolverine's dialogue under Ramo's has been everything it should be:

Smart, witty, cool, suave and a dash of self deprication ("Jean would be rolling over in her grave, if she stayed there long enough that is")

Gugenheim's the real deal and should return after Bianchi & Loeb's work (honestly i think Marvel should get a high profile writer/artist on Origins)

I loved Millar's arc. It showed how much Wolverine cares about honor and debt and eeeeeeverything he went through just for a little boy.

Gugenheim's the man and Ramos's art is a great matchup
