YOUR MAN, BACK @ MARVEL - BILL ROSEMANN MOVES BACK TO MARVEL COMICS

Another editor has moved in the slight shuffle between Marvel and DC, as Newsarama has confirmed that Bill Rosemann, formerly Manager, DC Creative Services, has moved to Marvel where he will take an editorial position with the publisher. Friday, September 15th, was his last day with DC.

For Rosemann, the move is one that some will surely see as “returning home,” as he began his career in the comic book industry at Marvel, working at the company for nearly ten years and rising to the position of Marketing Communications Manager, or, as he was better known to readers of Marvel Comics and online: “Your Man @ Marvel.” While at Marvel, Rosemann tried his hand at writing comics as well, with a handful of short stories as well as 2002’s Deadline miniseries, which introduced the character Kat Farrell.

In October of 2002, Rosemann left Marvel, and by early 2003, had joined CrossGen as Director of Marketing Communications. Rosemann eventually rose to the position of Senior VP - Publishing at CrossGen, and served in that position during the diversification of the publisher’s line to include such titles as El Cazador, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and Abadazad. Amidst the company’s financial troubles of late 2003-2004, Rosemann left the company in April of 2004, and joined DC the following November.

Rosemann was apparently caught in the changes that went through DC’s Marketing Department, and was named Manager, Marketing Communications in mid-June of 2005, however, this move was undone roughly two weeks later, and saw Rosemann return Creative Services by the end of June, 2005.

Rosemann’s move from DC to Marvel comes a little over a month over Editor Mike Marts’ move from Marvel Editorial (X-Men Group Editor) to DC.

Look for a chat with Rosemann here at Newsarama early this week.

Welcome back, my man @ Marvel. If he's back in the marketing department, hopefully he can get them back on track. I feel like they haven't been as up to par with some of the stuff that they've been doing. But on the other hand, a lot of the stuff has been great.

Cool. Welcome back. Even though he's not necessarily writing anything, I liked Deadline.

I don't know, marvel legends is probably the best comic toy line out there. Marvel select gave us the watcher . . . the watcher dude. Xmen legends I and ii rocked as well as the punisher videogame, hulk videogame and the new ultimate alliance video game looks to be the best comic video game ever. Fantastic four might be a genre defining investment. I see alot of marvel tee shirts and the entire world is looking forward to spiderman 3 more then any other movie. I think marvel marketing is doing okay. Do I wish there was a live action show via smallville sure! But everything is progressing according to my plan . . . heh he heh. I mean their plan . . . heh . . .

...Ok, I'm about to put the needle on the record. Everyone at Marvel and DC get up out of their chairs and start moving around the circle to see who's going to wind up moving over to their current competitor...

Didn't he move to Florida for the sake of moving to Florida (ie nothing to do with a Crossgen job)? What happened to that?

He's a good man for Marvel to have back.

My thoughts exactly.

Doesn't anyone else find this swapping of staff and then swapping back between the big two a tad incestuous?

It isn't good for the industry - all it will lead to is a homogenisation of DC and Marvel which will be the death knell for comics in general.

Nah, that will never happen.

But if it does happen ( ), it could the biggest opportunity ever for the rest of the industry.

Hopefully he will turn into editor/writer and provide some more stories of Kat Farrell (and please with co-creator Guy Davis).

Welcome back, Bill.

You mean you hadn't noticed the incestous homogenisation of DC & Marvel?

I have wondered why they (DC& Marvel) don't have "a non-compete clause" in their employment contracts. Basically means that there's a set time (usually 6 months to a year) which the employee can not work for its direct competitor when they are no longer employed.

This would go a long way in bringing new talent and new innovative ideas to the business.

Bill Rosemann is one of the most sincere, down to earth people in the comics industry. The fact that he is taking on an editorial position at Marvel is some of the best news I've heard in a while. I look forward to seeing what he has in store for us.

Deadline was a cool series. I hope he returns to the character now that he's back with the company - I would check it out.

Glad to see Bill back, he kicks arse and is truly the Man.

I see your point - especially given the amount of event publishing that's been taking place in the last few years but you can argue either way on this one. As someone who reads a lot of both company's books I still feel each has an overall distinctive character - but sharing editors is one of the quickest way to homogonising any distinctiveness.

Upon reflection, maybe that is good for the industry - it would force readers who are looking for something unique to seek out books from other companies...
