SDCC '06: DC's TERRA TO GET OWN LIMITED SERIES

Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray will write, and Amanda Conner will draw a DC limited series starring the Teen Titans character Terra, this according to this message board post Saturday by Gray.

According to the creator, Conner made the announcement at her Saturday "Spotlight" panel in San Diego.

” Terra, Gar, and Raven are my favorites so it is cool that we'll be working with the rock slinger,” Gray posted.

“I can't talk story yet because we've been through dozens of ideas and plots over the last eight months,” he continued, “but Terra as a character has never had a definitive origin. That includes Terra 1 and 2. This mini will address that fact in some surprising ways and open the door to a new corner of the DCU. Aside from that the emphasis will be on heroism, true blue hero stuff.”

Look for more details here at Newsarama when they are available...

Newsarama's Comic-Con International '06 Coverage is brought to you by Miramax Films’ RENAISSANCE. In theaters this fall.

That's odd. The original (pictured) Terra had nothing to do with heroism, aside from wanting to kill heroes.

Maybe that's different with "New Earth" history .......

This all ties to TT Animated-Terra is the second most popular character in the series, next to Raven. Of course, she's is also the most loathed.

Toward the end of New Titans, it was revealed that Terra 1 and Terra 2 were actually the same person. Was this ever resolved, or are we maybe pulling another Max Lord Havok selective retcon? Not that it matters too much, I might have been the only person reading New Titans at the time.

Terra

With as evil as she was & how cool it would be to have a true bad ass powerful female villain back, I hope DC sticks with Marv's original vision & intention for the character & keeps the FIRST Terra dead & please have this one be a twin or clone or something.

It's clear they want to go in a heroic direction with the character, so I take it that's why Geoff hasn't used her much. My wish was for the SECOND version(ESPECIALLY if they were sticking to her being the same) to break out Deathstroke & fight the Titans, but I know it's been done.

Just please clear up the fact & make them NOT the same person. My wishes aside for a return of a villainess Terra, I am all for sticking with Marv's original vision above all else.
To me, there is a reason the 2nd one doesn't look exactly like the first & never has outside of the costume & George Perez. KEEP it that way.

I have to admit that Terra was one of my favorite characters of all time, and I was really upset that Wolfman and Perez killed her off. At the time of the Judas Contract storyline, I thought that there was another way out that the creators could have taken. I also thought that her death was the begining of the end for the Titans' popularity. Although Perez went on to do the (at the time) special format series, the title never regained its place of prominence (one of the major contributing factors was probably that the Perez series had some serious lateness and he ultimately left the series).

But getting back to this series, I may actually read this project; it looks like fun. Although Wolfman and Perez spent time developing her character over time, I think that her character lacked a clearly defined motivation. I never bought the misanthrope motivation. The "I am evil just because that is how I am..." is too easy. With all of that said however, Palmiotti, Gray, and Conner are re-visiting one of the most infamous character's in comic book history. I wish them luck because those of us who remember the Wolfaman/Perez heyday on Teen Titans will inevitably compare the old stuff to the new stuff.

Bringing back Terra was always a bit like bringing back the Pheonix. The Judas Contract was pretty much the Teen Titan's Dark Pheonix Saga.

Hopefully this will give them a fresh start post-Infinate Crisis to clean up whatever confusion Terra 2 brought with her.

There is no confusion with Terra 2 it's been made pretty clear that she is the original, just resurrected by the Time Trapper with her memory wiped. If you are confused though, go read her Wikipedia entry here.

...P*******'s writing this? Lemme guess - Terra 2 winds up as a superintendant for a tenement slum in the Ghetto when this is all over and done with.

[Thinks for a minute]

...No, wait, she's a bit -too- young for that. Which means she'll probably be enrolled in James Buchannan High, and sent to Room 101, the Remedial Studies class. This will enable JP to revive Welcome Back, Kotter. "Hotsie Terra", anyone?

The story did NOT say that Terra I and Terra II were the same person, but that they had the same DNA. They might be the same person; they might be different but infused with the same DNA; might be something else. There's a story here to be told!

I hope Geo-Force and his wife Denise play a role.

Very cool.

Not a big Amanda Connor fan (a bit too cartoony-looking for my tastes), but that didn't stop me from buying the JSAC issues featuring Power Girl.

Amanda Conner? Thumbs up. I love her art.

Terra's evil past? As confusing as it is to have two Terra's I think it would be horrible to discount such an emotional story in the Titan's past. That was the first major story arc that I read in New Teen Titans so I have a certain fondness for it. No other tale shows just how bad a guy Slade is.

It makes me wish that DC would drop Teen Titans and bring a team back with Gar, Cyborg, Raven, Starfire, Donna and Nightwing. I hate the Outsiders.

FYI: The Terra DNA test story is in Titans Secret Files 2 and is co-written by Geoff Johns.

I'm already confused. So this new Terra is guilt free because she was from another time stream and didn't turn on the Titans? Wouldn't it be more interesting if she was the real Tara and had to redeem herself?

I've never liked the Outsiders either. I'd prefer an adult Titans book with the Perez/Wolfman era and Silver Age characters. But this Terra book along with the upcoming Wolfman Raven mini are the only Titan related comics that have interested me since I got back into comics last year.

....and Palmotti, Gray and Conner are very good. I will try this.

It's never been definitively said. It's one of those things where it's heavily implied that she's the original but is also a bit open-ended in regards to whether or not she ACTUALLY is. So I guess in that regard, it could be pretty interesting. And yeah, since he's not doing anything, I fully expect Geo-Force to play a decent role in this.

Anyway, I'll pick this up if only because, for whatever reason (and despite not having read a lot of her), I like Terra II.

Sounds good

The character really needs a new status quo considering she is best known for betraying the titans and yet she has tryed to redeem herself since then

LOVE the team. However...

"the emphasis will be on heroism, true blue hero stuff.”

Wasn't Terra an underage traitor doing Deathstroke?

Furthermore, isn't Terra dead?

But I guess in the DCU those are minor non-obstacles anymore.

There has been a second Terra running around for a couple of years now.
