A NIGHTMARE IN LA JOLLA: FREDDY's BACK @ WILDSTORM

Just in time for Halloween, this October Wildstorm will go in a different direction for the publisher and try to haunt your nightmares as they bring back the iconic Freddy Krueger in a new comic book series based on the Nightmare on Elm Street films, right on the heels of a new DVD Special Edition.

October’s A Nightmare On Elm Street #1 is written by veteran Chuck Dixon, penciled by Kevin West, and features covers by Tony Harris, Jim Clark and JD Mettler (as seen here), along with an incentive variant by Tim Bradstreet. According to editor Ben Abernathy, the Wildstorm series will begin with a six-issue arc, composed of two smaller three-issue arcs.

“A new family has moved to Springwood, not aware of the Freddy menace...but they're about to get schooled by the urban legend in a big way!” described Abernathy...

The Nightmare on Elm Street license going to DC = Good. I'll read one of the Freddy comics now.

I thought this belonged to Avatar? Sigh, here we go. I can predict that DC is going to make WildStorm the crap place where they put whatever crap they feel like won't sell at DCU. Those horror comics are interesting, but why WS?

Because it's different.

Hmmm... I wonder if Freddy will show up in the mainstream DCU? Hah hah hahhhhhh!

I read something a while back on CBR via LITG that DC had purchased the Nightmare on Elm Street comics liscence as part of a "New Line" comics deal. I don't exactly know what happened regarding Avatar, but my guess is that their deal wasn't concrete and some loop hole allowed DC to snatch up the property rights. Either way, it's definitely something to look forward to.

P.S. It's not really a surprise that Nightmare has ended up at Wildstorm. I've always said that the imprint is to DC as New Line is to Warner Bros. and coincidentally WB owns the film distribution rights to all DC comics properties.

This kinda makes sense as New Line and Freddy are owned by Time Warner anyway. Between this and Snakes on a Plane, it's pretty cool to see DC/Wildstorm doing film comics again.

Still hoping new line decide to make more Nightmare films...

Swell... does this mean there are going be 37 Freddy books coming out each month from DC, and that he's going to be guest starring in every other DC book, and that Frank Miller is going to have Freddy constantly remind us of how he's "the best at what he does" or something?

... I bet the Joker could take him anyway.

Avatar did a great job with F13th and this - not only it was truly violent stuff, but it was failthful to the source material in tone and plot. Plus the art suited the series really well. Somehow i don' t see this working so well with Wildstorm.

Well, this seems weird, but I'm probably going to end up getting this.

Oh thank god that Avatar lost the license because now I don't have to see 3 different covers to each crappy issue and a total of 9 different copies of a book we MIGHT sell 2 of... If you don't want you comic to sell, take it to Avatar so they can put out 900 variations of it.

It's odd not having Avatar doing the series anymore as I thought it was fun having Freddy, Jason, and Leatherface all under one roof. I thought they were cool but it was a bit annoying with all the different cover versions.

It will be interesting to see what Wildstorm will do with the title. For some reason I don't think they will be as gory and that they will push the envelope as much as Avatar would. But I could be wrong. We shall see...

I disagree with you, I didn't enjoy them, could be the lateness of the comics, but i found them to be one dimensional.

At the very least, this will be decent. They got a big name writer, and the cover art work looks really good. Hopefully that's what the interiors will look like.

All of a sudden, Chuck Dixon is back to being one of the busiest men in comics again. It's amazing how they sneak up on you, isn't it?

Well, I guess I know what the 'thing I'd like if I'm into his old Nightmare on Elms Street' books' Tony Harris couldn't tell me about at Heroes Con was!

Anyone know what Kevin West has penciled before? Maybe Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw will be moving as well.

I guess this is why Avatar is pushing their own line of horror titles. Probably no doubt F13 and TCM will be annouced by SDCC.

I like the soldier hunting down Freddy in dreamworld premise.

Doesn't Wildstorm announce a variant cover for issue 1 already?
