10:30-11:30 Comic Arts Conference Session #1: Myths for the Modern Age—
In the tradition of Philip José Farmer’s famous hoax biography Tarzan Alive, contributors to Myths for the Modern Age: Philip Jose Farmer's Wold Newton Universe (MonkeyBrain Books) present their parascholarship with a straight face, treating comic book as the reports of the adventures of real-life people. Win Eckert (”Foreword,” Tarzan Alive) brings forward evidence to show that DC Comics’ Doc Savage series of the 1990s, dismissed by many scholars because of numerous inconsistencies, in fact portrays events from Doc Savage’s life consistent with the original pulp super-sagas. Brad Mengel settles the longstanding question of the Man of Bronze’s true family name—“Savage” as asserted in the pulps, or—“Wildman” as Farmer revealed in Doc Savage: His Apocalyptic Life. Chuck Loridans reveals evidence recently uncovered from the files of Richard Henry Benson (aka The Avenger) that suggests that the Jungle Lord may have sired two daughters, Modesty Blaise and Nellie Gray. John Small presents a compelling case that the woman known as Vampirella was born Anita Santiago and adventured with Zorro as Lady Rawhide. Peter Coogan (Superhero: The Secret Origin of a Genre) pulls the
curtain back and discusses the principles of Wold-Newtonry employed in the essays.

Clowes was supposed to be on Friday, but then he heard that you were coming on Friday, so he switched to Thursday. That's the reason why. It's all about you.

11:00-12:00 Digital Webbing: 5 Years Later—
In June of 2001, the aspiring creators of the digitalwebbing.com message board convinced the board's owner to do a one shot showcase so they could have something to show editors at conventions. In 2006, that "one shot" has just released it's 29th issue and Digital Webbing Press has become home to Bloodrayne, Zombie Highway, Christopher Golden's Thundergod and (this fall) Joe Staton and Nicola Cuti's E-Man. Chris and Ryan Ottley (Lost Squad from Devil’s Due, Invincible from Image), Tony Lee (Doctor Who, Starship Troopers) and other DW Presents alumni will look back at the anthology as well as discuss upcoming projects.
Room 1B

Okay...already corrections. I'll be joined by Chad Hardin (Fist of Justice artist), Tony Lee and one or two other DW related creators as Ryan Ottley will be unavailable for the panel and Chris (Lost Squad) Kirby's flight will just be touching down. Chris will be sitting in on a later panel and Ryan/Wya will be drawing at the Image booth much of the weekend.

We now return you to your regular thread.

With that much content, even if I was able to attend, I'd miss over half the stuff I'd really want to see.

Why aren't there recordings done of these Spotlights and things from the Con, and then a DVD (probably a set, actually) released with highlights, at the very least? It seems like it would be a pretty simple thing to throw together, wouldn't have to look overly professional, and, likewise, wouldn't really detract at all from the people who can actually make it to the Con.

You have these amazing creators, and some content you might never get to witness anywhere else, some "once in a lifetime" stuff... Why not take full advantage of it and keep it for prosperity?

I appreciate all that Newsarama does reporting on what they can. But I'd like to see some of this stuff. Or, you know... ALL of it.

Many of the panels are recorded by CCI volounteers on videotape. As I understand these are being kept for archival and historical purposes. Since these are from many different sources and media it would be quite involved a production to convert it. Plus even if they only had selected panels you could be looking at more than 50 hours of content from a single con. The people that record this are volunteers and have regular jobs so you would have to find the time for the proper people to edit the content, burn it to DVD and then mass produce it.

Ultimatley it's a convention and as much of the information is of a timely manor it is intended to be viewed in person. I would recomend that you try to attend next year, you won't regret it.

My wife and I are about to go for our 9th straight year. I remember in 1998 when the big news was that they had attendence of 30,000! Last year paid attendence was 104,000! And unlike some cons CCI:SD only counts a 4 day pass as one person and not 4.

I do have to say while there's always conflicts with panels this years schedule is Brutal! Of course this is the first year I've seen a panel by Snoop Dogg!

I'm going to have to make a spot decision about my brain abilities on Thursday. If my business side is up, Self-Publishing. Creative? Chopra and Morrison. And if nothing is really firing? The silly joy of Sergio.

I would look at the rooms there in and where you're going to be prior...since it can take a while to get from one end of the convention center to the other that is usually the deciding factor for me especially since they shut the rooms off now when the seats are full. I'll be going to the Sergio and Mark panel since I'll be in that room for the panel before.

I actually cut and paste the panels I'm interested in into Outlook...then I can see them in a grid and start pruining and as you said sometimes I'll leave two competing panels on my calendar and make a split second decision...or sometimes you're just stuck on the Exhibit Floor!

Either way it should be a great show!

This con has become so big that I've taken to only seeing half of what I want due to overlapping panels.

What's really a pain is that I'm heavily involved in the gay side of comics and having to split my time between tthe Prism and DC panels is sheer torture.

It looks like Prism just may be doing something everyday.

Just remember that the number "5" and "6" rooms are the easiest to work around because they're next to each other.
