TIM HILDEBRANDT PASSES AWAY

From the Hildebrandt Family - June 11th, 2006

Tim Hildebrandt has passed away. And, with him, so has an era.

Tim, 67, died today from complications due to diabetes. He is survived by his mother Germaine, twin brother Greg, sister Janie, wife Rita, son Charles, nieces Mary and Laura, and nephew Gregory.

Tim was an otherworldly artist. For 47 years, his captivating work fostered the dreams and fantasies of millions of fans, young and old.

Best known as part of the Brothers Hildebrandt team, Tim’s career transported him to—and through—many worlds. Technically speaking, Tim and Greg worked side by side. But their work together on such masterpieces as the original Star Wars poster and 70’s J.R.R. Tolkien
calendars proved that their individual talents could coalesce seamlessly into one.

Tim was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor. While he loved and appreciated all forms of art, he had a particular passion for animation and illustration.

While he will be greatly missed by all of us who love him, we take comfort knowing that he will live on in the art that he created.

Anyone wishing to express condolences to Greg Hildebrandt can send them to:

The Spiderwebart Gallery,
5 Waterloo Rd.
Hopatcong, NJ 07843

I have that original Hildebrandt Star Wars poster hanging in my computer room. I've had it since the late 1970's.

RIP and Godspeed, Mr. Hildebrandt.

I don't know much of his work, but I believe I remember seeing it on some Marvel masterworks cards back in the 90's, it was gorgeous stuff. My condolences to his friends and family.

I grew up near the Lake Hopatcong area.

Every year before I had a job or an allowance or anything and was too young to drive to stores by myself, I would get my mom a Lord of the Rings callander with artwork by the brothers Hildebrandt. It was something we both enjoyed.

My biggest exposure was the work the brothers did for comic book cards. They did outstanding work. God bless him and keep him close.

It is a little hard to tell what Greg Hildebrandt did and what Tim Hildrebrandt did since they worked so closely together....but this stuff came out of their studio.

Oh man, this is terrible news. I love the work of Tim and his brother. I collected all their early works and their Star Wars poster is hanging in front of me as I write this.

I will miss the man and his work.

Condolences to his family and friends,

rob

Sad. Sometimes, the great ones become greater when they're gone.

Condolences go out to the Hildebrandt family.
Just wanted to say that although I remember the Star Wars posters and such, there was a Marvel Masterpiece Card where their paintings of each character really impressed me.

As impressive as the brothers' material was in print, if you ever get a chance to see the originals, do. They really do pack a punch.

I'm very sad to hear that Tim died, the brothers' art was always very plastic, the figures looked like toys, really unique and cool. Condolences to the family and I hope that Greg continues to work wonders in fantasy art

My brother and I met them at a convention when I was 13-14. He (and his brother) was a great guy and was willing to answer any and all of my many questions . He'll be missed.

Thank you so much Tim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tim Hildebrandt is one of my influences, and I can't believe he's gone. Luckily for every fan he leaves behind a HUGE, AMAZING portfolio of work.

I'm in shock.

He isn't gone, though. You'll see his influence for decades to come.
