Post EMERALD CITY CON DEBUTS IN FEB

Press Release

Debuting on Sunday February 9th in beautiful downtown Seattle will be the Emerald City ComiCon. The convention will be held at the West Field Plaza of the brand new Seahawks Stadium, which boasts of over 60,000 square feet in open floor space, making it the largest show of its kind in the Pacific Northwest.

The show will be featuring Erik Larsen (Savage Dragon & Spider-Man), Darick Robertson (Transmetropolitan & Punisher), Scott Morse (Elektra: Glimpse & Echo, Magic Pickle), Jim Mahfood (Grrl Scouts & Stupid Comics), Ford Gilmore (Thundercats), Mike Huddleston (The Coffin & Harley Quinn), Steve Rolston (Pounded & Mek) and Pia Guerra (Y: The Last Man), with more creators to be announced in the near future.

ECCC will also be host to several large publishers including Image Comics, Oni Press and Top Shelf Production with a few others tentatively scheduled. WizKids, the makers of Mage Knight and HeroClix, will be supporting a sanctioned HeroClix tournament for which they are providing prizes.

When asked why he was putting on a show of this magnitude, Jim Demonakos, Event Coordinator for ECCC, said, "The Pacific Northwest supports so many great creators as well as comic book stores and there is such a tremendous fan base here, that we felt the region deserved a large-scale show such as this. Every major region of the U.S. has a great larger-scale show, from San Diego to the MegaCon, from Mid-Ohio to Baltimore, but the Northwest has always flown under the national radar - that is, until now." Jim says they plan to make the Emerald City ComiCon an annual springtime event in Seattle.

We do need a big show in the NW, San Diego is too far... Seattle seems like the right location, as it's smack dab between Portland and Vancouver BC. Now if they can convince the region that they're offering something more and draw some crowds...

Uh not to mention the NW offers a heck of allot more than most regions in regards to tourism. It's worth a trip out here for that alone (just don't move here...)!

Best of luck! And keep spreading the word.

And now the Victoria vs. Seattle cross-border comics convention battle is truly joined...

It does seem like a great place to have a con! Someday I'll visit the area (been to Vancouver, BC and Whidbey Island, WA but never Seattle). Pretty good timing too, week after APE and a few weeks before MegaCon. Good luck, folks!

WOW! I remember the very first time I went in to Jim's shop in Lynnwood, and he was in the middle of swearing to his customers that some day he would bring *good* conventions to the Pacific North West. Gawd Bless You, Jim, for making it all a reality!

So, uh... you'll give me a good price on a table, right?

Thank God! As a college student, I can't really afford to fly away to some comicon in Chicago or Philadelphia or San Diego... and feel pretty neglected living here in Seattle. Demonakos is absolutely right, Seattle (and a lot of the NW) has a TON of great creators and a thriving creative underground, and it's ridiculous that this hasn't happened before.

Fantagraphic better get in on this, Seattle is their hometown for pete's sake...

Regards,
Stratus
