LULLABY #2

Alias Enterprises has provided Newsarama with an eight page preview of the forthcoming Lullaby: Wisdom Seeker #2. The series features characters from classic childrens’ fantasy and adventure novels come together for a brand new tale.

Or, as co-writers Mike S. Miller and Ben Avery explained when Newsarama spoke with them last December:

Miller: Lullaby is the world where all children’s stories come from. Here they are real. So Oz is an actual place, and the destination for our crew. The crew includes Alice, as you mentioned, and Cheshire Cat. They then meet Little Red Riding Hood and the Pied Piper. Eventually they will cross paths with Jim Hawkins from Treasure Island, and Pinocchio, who really needs no introduction. All of these characters stories are based on the original stories, but the darkness that is corrupting the land has not only changed the characters, but the very stories themselves. It is this darkness that they band together to stop before it destroys their world.

Avery: A lot of the story will be discovering what happened to these characters we all love. Our band of heroes will have some run ins with people like Long John Silver and Ben Gunn; Tin Man, Lion, and Scarecrow (all three in ways you may not expect); the three billy goats Gruff... and wait until you see Red Riding Hood’s Granny. When I wrote that part in the script, I just got giddy thinking about what Hector would do with it. We’re including some lesser-known characters as well, like Yellow Rabbit from a Mexican fairy tale I’m a fan of, and the Three Musicians.

The series was created by artist Hector Sevilla.

In this segment, the Pied Piper has joined the wolfish Red Riding Hood in her search for her grandmother. As they stumble upon a Woodsman carrying the scent of the old woman, the pair also encounters a mysterious girl from a place called Wonderland…

Thumbs up

Very nice pages and interesting story. What was up with the second page/link? The image was so small and unreadable. Ah, well... I'll read it all when it comes out.

I loved issue one. I like how they're using characters like Jim Hawkins. Wonder if we'll ever get to see Long John Silver?

Uh... He was in issue 1. Jim's Captain, that fires him off his ship.

But fear not, you will see him again! And this time, we may actually say his name aloud!

art is great - story did nothing for me in #1...

I think a great story would have put this over the top...

Is this becoming a new sub-genre? Comics and fairytales - we have had The Wonderlanders, Fables and American McGee's Alice...McFarlane's Twisted Land of Oz...so much stuff as a take off of these old stories...

Of course, I'm biased, but I'd tell you to stick with it, BradyKiller.

This story arc is more along the lines of a first act. The first issue doesn't really get us into the actual story so much as it just introduces some of the main characters. We really meet Red and Piper in issue 2, and things get moving after that.
