MANHUNTER #31

DC’s Manhunter returns next week, and DC Comics has provided Newsarama with an exclusive preview of the issue by Andreyko and Gaydos.

The solicitation for the issue reads:

Written by Marc Andreyko; Art by Michael Gaydos; Cover by Liam Sharp

The fan-favorite series returns! New series artist Michael Gaydos (New Avengers, Alias, Nightmare Factory) and cover artist Liam Sharp (COUNTDOWN PRESENTS: LORD HAVOK AND THE EXTREMISTS) deliver a stunning new look for the continuing adventures of the DCU's most human hero!

Los Angeles is Manhunter's town — so when Kate Spencer learns of the disappearance of hundreds of women along the Mexican border, she's on the case both as law-breaking D.A. and costumed vigilante.

Meanwhile, Kate's bloodline tie to the JSA returns to haunt her — and it looks like her sidekick's most notorious supervillain ex-boss is doing the same to him.

DC Universe | 32pg. | Color | $2.99 US

On Sale June 4, 2008

Hmm, leaning towards picking this up; I'm not a Gaydos fan at all, but his work here looks passable.

Hmm...the blue narration boxes look an awful lot like the font used for Jaime Reyes' Scarab when he speaks in English and not Scarab-speak.

...Though the preview makes it sound like Kate's at the California-Mexico border, and that's pretty damn far from Texas, and Jaime's mom wouldn't want him out past his curfew.

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY YYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome back, Kate!

Oh, and yes, Bath IS a lovely city in England, escpecially when you can wander up one of those residential roads out south, turn around, and see the city laid out as a whole. Gorgeous.

Oh, um, back to my regularly scheduled YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

NICE! I think Marc did a great job with the two intro pages. It was a good summary that captured most of the important bits from this roller coaster ride of a comic.

Absolutely love Mr. Gaydos' artwork, loved every moment of Alias, glad to see him doing some DC work, and he has absolutely made this book his own instantaneously - which wasn't all that tough to do given how generic some of its artwork was before the break.

I got a couple issues just to see what they did with Azrael, them having those few pages to impress me. It was "meh" and how they mucked with Azrael's history

I wish them the best of luck, especially if they plan to sort that little Az misstep out.

Yes, I'm a geek like that.

How is Monacle "a villain with an axe to grind" if he's dead? Dead dead. Head explode dead.

Nice, Manhunter and The New Blue Beetle.

Interesting.

Unfortunately, this book should last yet another 5 issues, just like last time.

2 page recap is missing the essential "Phantom Girl / That_Guy_Who_Replace_Superman_Golden_Age _Appearances" name drops.

It's being narrated in past tense. He had an axe to grind before he bucked the kicket.

And yes, go buy Manhunter.

Thumbs up

Next Wednesday is going to be the best comic day of the year! Manhunter returns!!!!

Whooooo! I love Manhunter. I've been waiting and waiting...and now, not only is it back, but it has my favorite artist from Alias to boot.

And if Blue Beetle is in the book my head may explode from pure fanboy overload!

Not only is Manhunter returning, but we get Buffy, JSA and Jonah Hex as well. Great Wednesday...

Welcome back Marc!!!!!
