So... Is it a small trade or a big issue?

I guess $4.99 isn't too bad a price for anyone interested in seeing how much of a train wreck Ultimates have now become. Unfortunately I paid full price for the first three issues before finally convincing myself that it was crap and cancelling it. My only excuse is that I stupidly believed it couln't get any worse... boy was I wrong!

March on Ultimatum, sounds a lot similar to the desperate marketing ploy of Countdown to Final Crisis...

$4.99? Must be something better out there to spend $4.99 on?

Cheers

It's just one of their 'Must-Have' editions branded differently. Think of it as a stop-gap until #4 comes out, then they'll have the trade out probably two weeks after #5 is done.

I suppose this is a lot smarter than waiting another 6-9 months to reprint the whole 5 issue series.

So uh . . . what happened to the last two issues?

I remember how in the sell-out announcement for one of the issues, that the editor was proud of the fact it had shipped on time up to that point. Oh well.

My LCS owner thought it was pretty clever of Marvel when they pulled this on Thor by turning the late shipping of the next book into a way of marketing it.

And it is, however, theres no mention of when issue 4 is coming out. As far as I'm aware theres no sign of the last 2 or 3 issues coming out. If Marvel have decided to wait until they get all of the artwork in to re-solicit them, then fair play, I think thats a good idea but they havent to my knowledge said anything about it.

Can anyone more in the know thanme set me straight?

What ever happened to the creative team saying that they were working on it (announced... what? In mid-2006, wasn't it?) so it'd ship on time since Joe Mad's notorious for shipping late?

They said the same thing about the entire series before it was solicited. I guess that turned out to be a lie.

They've since retconned that statement obvioiusly and will now claim they never said anything of the sort.

Did Joe Mad sign that much-touted exclusive contract back in 2006? Or was it even earlier? And in those 2+ years, only three issues were completed? Really?

Well I guess it's been difficult to juggle his professional obligations with the likes of Final Fantasy XII and Halo 3.

I really don't think that this comic is as bad as some people are saying. and i went into it with an open mind, half expecting crap. It's fun. It's not that deep. But it's fun.

A comic doesn't have to be deep to be good, and it doesn't have to be fun to be good. However, I've found Ultimates 3 to be neither. An openly and unsubtle incestuous relationship, Wolverine reminiscing about his lust for Magneto's wife (and ambiguous lust for the woman who might possibly be his daughter), and a cast of erratic cliched characters doesn't amount to a lot of fun for me.

But there's action! People punching people! Open use of incest as a plot point! A white Wasp making Captain America out to be an old timer because he thinks incest is wrong! Iron Man and Black Widow in graphic sex scenes, even if they're obscured! Sabertooth using his fingernails (instead of the writer using Ultimate history and having him use adamantium claws) saying "suck it!"

It's the best book Loeb has ever written! In fact, he might, with Ultimates 3 # 5, do his cliched "use a real speech from a president to run in the background of the comic to make the comic seem deeper than it really is."

Oh, that would surely make it a winner.

They should make an Omnibus about this series so that futur generations discover this wonderful work of art of mediocrity.

Don't forget how un-Ultimate Iron-man and Thor are!

Did issue # 4 come out or no?

I thought overall the first three issues were very interesting. It brings issues in comics that you normally wouldn't think that they would bring into comics. Some would agree that this is a good thing, others will say they disagree and believe this is a bad thing. The only odd thing that I have found in this series is the relationship between Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, other then that, it's really been great.

The New Ultimates suck

This new series is awful. It took everything Millar and Hitch did and ran it into the ground. I can't believe this thing is selling out everywhere. I waited so long for Madueira to get back to work and this is what we get. Maybe he should go back to playing video games and stop making comics. Oh wait... since the next issues are nowhere to be seen, it looks like he has.
