A CHESTERQUEST FOLLOW-UP

by Vaneta Rogers

When Marvel editor and writer C.B. Cebulski headed off for his great "ChesterQuest" search for new artists, he thought trying to find 12 people who were qualified enough to work at the publishing company was aiming high.

But as we reported from New York Comic Con, Marvel has ended up with over 20 new artists as the result of Cebulski's international ChesterQuest, many of whom are already working on titles for the company. The list is truly worldwide, with more than 10 countries represented.

The artists who are going to be working on Marvel titles immediately (some of which have already be published) include:

- Marco Turini of Italy, Squadron Supreme.
- Scott Wegener of the U.S.A., Punisher War Journal.
- David Lafuente of Spain, X-Men Divided We Stand and Hellcat.
- Matteo Lolli of Italy, Marvel Adventures Iron Man.
- Antonio Fuso of Italy, X-Force Special.
- Andre Coehlo from Brazil, Ms. Marvel.
- Daniel Maia of Portugal, Ms. Marvel Special.
- Jon Landry of the U.S.A., Marvel Adventures.
- Jacopo Camagni of Italy, Marvel Adventures.
- Vincenzo Cucca of Italy on She-Hulk.
- Marco Castiello of Italy, Secret Invasion Front Line.

A new artist anthology will be called House of Ideas and will be published later this year. The anthology will include:

- Thomas Labourot - France
- Matteo Scalera - Italy
- Shaun “artchild” Turnbull - Canada
- Serena Ficca - Italy
- Joe Suitor - USA
- Damon Hendricks - USA
- Christian Nauck - Germany
- Stephen Thompson - Ireland
- Michele Bertilorenzi - Italy
- Sara Pichelli - Italy
- Paul Davidson - England
- Tomas Bennato - Italy

Cover artists for the issues will include:

- Olivier Vatine – France
- Joy Ang - Canada
- Piotr Cieslinski - Poland
- Matteo De Longis – Italy

We talked to Cebulski for a follow-up to the New York announcement to find out more about the success of ChesterQuest and whether or not Marvel will be conducting more searches for new talent.

I was hum-hawing on She-Hulk, but now it's a definite buy. Looks fantastic.

ChesterQuest for aspiring writers is a wonderful idea.

Just look at that Deadpool. It's great!
I want so bad for them to make a Deadpool cartoon on Adult Swim.

I like the colouring on that DP (and She-Hulk) more than the linework. I'm sick of seeing some of the over-rendered, over-produced colouring Marvel puts on so many of their books (which really knocked Annihilation: Conquest, in particular, down a lot of notches for me), and there's a beautiful simplicity to it.

This needs to start soon. The amount of writers who just want to have their writing looked at is insane. Just looked at. If ChesterQuest asked for 5 page stories and gave very speciifc things they wanted... they would get DELUGED with writing... good stuff there too!

Chesterquest kicks ASS!!

I definitely think he should do an Asian journey, and not to forget the idea of a writers-search.

I wonder how the several cover-artists will work with the Anthology tho? Will it have several covers, or will they all have a pin-up or two included?

I'm a little disappointed to not see more asian talent on the list (though now I know why)... but it seems that Spain and Italy have tons of talent. Can't wait to see the results and for CQII.
