May 5, 2008, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Halcyon Company Presentation of a Moritz Borman Production of a McG Film, “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins” is directed by McG from a script by Michael Ferris and John Brancato. The film is being produced by Moritz Borman, Derek Anderson, Victor Kubicek and Jeffrey Silver and executive produced by Peter D. Graves, Bahman Naraghi, Mario F. Kassar, Andrew G. Vajna, Joel B. Michaels, Dan Lin and Jeanne Allgood.

In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.
The film also stars Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, Charlotte Gainsbourg as Kate Connor, Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams, Common as Barnes, and Jadagrace as Star.
“Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins” marks the latest installment of the multi-billion dollar Terminator franchise and will be the first film in a new Terminator trilogy. The film is scheduled for a North American theatrical release May 22, 2009. The Halcyon Company acquired all Terminator franchise rights in May 2007.
Principal photography is taking place at the Albuquerque Studios and on location throughout New Mexico.

There's the great TV show which is rebuilding the franchise...and then there's this..following on the last movie where John Connors isn't a man of destiny who rises up to become a hero, but a schumck in the right place at the right time

While T3 was just awful, I do still have some hope for this. Why? Bale is usually pretty careful about the projects he signs up form. Doesn't mean anything, really, but a guy can hope.

Is your comment a negative or a positive one? Bale is a great actor who have given us Ameican Phycho, Reign of Fire and both new Batman films.
However, my main concern is how does the tv show, which clearly altered the timeline of the Terminator saga, will affect the new trilogy?

Doesn't seem like it will. The TV show's creators have made it clear that they're ignoring the third Terminator film and creating their own timeline following the second. But since the new film includes a version of Claire Danes' character from the third film, the implication is that they're using separate continuities.

It won't affect it at all. The TV show is a divergence after T2 (or alternate timeline if you prefer).

True enough, but most good actors pay their dues in bad movies. He hasn't had a bad gaff like that since (except maybe for working with Terrence Malick, but that might just be my personal bias). He has more clout than he did in 2001-2002 and can be choosier.

Yeah, fair enough. I actually think Christian Bale's an amazing actor, and agree what you said about him being careful, I just wanted to bust your balls a bit.
Incidentally, I read somewhere that he read the script and loved it. So I have faith in the movie.

Speaking of personal bias, I disagree with the idea that Reign of Fire was a bad movie. It certainly wasn't high art, but it was entertaining enough for a popcorn movie. If you want to issue Bale demerits for appearing in bad movies, try Equilibrium.

I thought Equilibrium was a good version of what police in 1984 or V for Vandetta would be like. But the story was too complex I thought for fans that need spoon-fed stuff. Entertaining because I was told this was a warm-up movie for the fighting style used in Batman Begins....anyone know if that was true?
Now if they can throw int he NOW Comics continuity, that would be something....a nice homage is all I want like Tim Reese

I found nothing about the story complex (although it was clear the writer/director was trying hard to be deep). It was a derivative watered-down mishmash of ideas taken from a number of much more interesting sources.

I agree entirely. And done on a budget of $10 million.
I'm surprised at the new trilogy, but McG on directional duties? Oh. Dear. Just hope the script is up to scratch.

Christian Bale as John Connor: BIG thumbs up!
McG directing: I'll wait for reviews, and probably for HBO. :-( I hope the producers have him on a very short leash. "Chuck" may be fun, but "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" makes T3 look like "Citizen Kane."

I love Bale, his work in the Prestige and the Machinist were top notch and his intensity through subtly was amazing in 3:10 to Yuma. Most people know him from the films you listed but his body of work (including Equilibrium which if you loved Dark City or Blade Runner you need to see) doesn't make Terminator seem like something he would go for, even more so with McG directing.
Then again the guy did play Jesus once…(though I didn’t actually see it with my own eyes).
