NYCC '08: BRENDAN FRASER VIDEO INTERVIEW
Actor Brendan Fraser has a series of projects coming up of possible interest to genre fans. He was at New York Comic Con Sunday in support of the upcoming Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D, and he took time to talk with Newsarama about that, along with the upcoming third installment in the popular Mummy series, Tomb of the Emperor Dragon, as well as his cameo in the in-production big screen G.I. Joe movie.
The animated and playful Fraser talks about how the all-digital Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D is the first movie of its kind, but only a harbinger of technology to come, why the Mummy movies have struck a chord with fans, and yes, G.I. Joe … not only confirming he's in the movie, but reminiscing about playing with the "parachute Joe" as a kid.

First post!
I could see Fraser in the G.I. Joe movie. In fact, I could him before members of the cast previously announced...
I don't know what to make of another Mummy movie. I'd like it if it was as good as the first, or at least not as bad as those last two.
And I hope Journey to the Center of the Earth is good. I've seen posters, they've piqued my interest.

Great interview. Brendan seems like a genuinely nice, down-to-earth guy. As well as a totally underrated actor. I'm looking forward to his cameo in G.I. Joe.

Nice to see that Brendan Fraser is as goofy in real life as he is in his movies (Encino Man anyone?).
It'll be interesting to see how Mummy 3 fares in comparison to the latest Indiana Jones movies - I always enjoyed the first one and felt it owed a lot of its success to the Jones franchise (and yeah I know that owes a lot to the serials of the 40s etc). The second one, Scorpion King was OK but hampered by some dodgy CGI and some real wooden acting on Fraser's part (I remember him stalking off to kill the Mummy after his wife died, but laughing because it looked so corny). And what was up with the wife being a reincarnated Egyptian princess? Oh well - good popcorn movie after all, must watch the first one again now!!
Dark Horizons has some excellent Gi Joe pics up at their site - Dennis Quaid looks nothing short of amazing for a guy his age. I hate him Looking forward to the movie, and hopefully it will be able to juggle a family audience, but not dumb down the acting or plot. Please God, no Street Fighter repeats please!!
And De Martini - lay off the hair cracks. Some of us follicly-challenged Newsarama fans are sensitive about this issue (I guess hair loss treatments are a crock if a $20, 000, 000 wage earner can't fix it either)

I wonder how many people he's met actually get the pronunciation of his last name correct. It looked like he was about to say something when they introduced him, but, of course, it definitely didn't harm the rest of the interview. He's always appeared to be a pretty awesome guy. Can't wait to see him in Joe, and have hopes for Mummy 3. First I'd heard of him doing Journey though. Have to read up on it.

It's nice to see that Brandon Fraser is such a funny guy (almost reminds me of the character he played in the "Looney Tunes" movie a few years ago!)
...but my favorite movies with Brandon are the "Mummy" (1 + especially 2)
and GODS & MONSTERS (a wonderful movie, suspenseful cinematography & scripting
and brilliant actors! In this movie Brandon did a great job.
imo, Brandon would make a fantastic CAPTAIN MARVEL (the "original" one from DC) in
the upcoming SHAZAM! movie. He has the perfect looks for this role.
...and I can't wait for "Mummy 3" and his Jules Verne-movie (the original one from 1960
is a classic).

Well, nothing like a geeky video at a comic-con to cheer you up. Brandon obviously knows where he's at and it seems like he's right at home.
Don't know how excited I am about Mummy 3 though. I hear Rachel's not in it, and looking at her was part of the fun of those things.

I really found it bothersome that he kept referring to it as "Comic-Con" Seemed odd and potentially misleading.
While that term can't be copyrighted (San Diego tried when a smaller Con was referring to itself as San Diego Comic-Con which is why they had to change the name to protect it)
It's pretty commonly used among industry to mean San Diego. I honestly don't know anyone in the business who refers to any con as "Comic-Con" except for Comic-Con International: San Diego.
The other's are always preceded by or simply referred to by their locations..
While it's nice to see a Con in NY finally take off I'd say it's still fairly low on the pecking order as far as Con's go. considering people may watch this in the future I think referring to the location as the NEW YORK Comic-Con would have made more sense and removed confusion.

we have about six hours' worth in the can (including Mark Waid, Grant Morrison, Geoff Johns, Rob Liefeld, Joe Quesada, Gail Simone and many, many more) don't worry - it's all coming.
