That was quite good. I liked the almost desperate statement of "we must be made whole again." It gives the pursuit of Xeng added depth beyond the standard escaped political prisoner angle I thought it was going for. In fact, I almost felt more for Etheria than I did for him.
And I liked the philosophy of the Cosmic Defense Ministry. Liked as in found it logically cool, not liked as in I want to join. The parallel to Etheria I'm sure is not coincidental.
I do question the ultra-violence Xeng uses. It seemed to me that the guards at the beginning were reticent to use it yet he wasted no time killing those punks, rather violently I might add. Of course there could be a myriad of reasons why but I don't know that yet. Aside from being cool, the suit begs the question of "why need/use it?"
And the art was strong. The colors really popped and the odd morphism of Xeng felt organic.

I have read the first four issues of this and have to say that it is a really good book. The characters feel real and the art is awesome.

Hey, big thanks to the folks who've left kind words here... and to Matt Brady for getting this free issue online for readers to check out. We've worked hard on this series and have been fortunate to have been well-reviewed since issue #1, and we're hoping this sneak peek will coax readers on the fence to pick up the trade when it's available later this year. If not, we still very much appreciate anyone who takes the time to look at this free preview of our book.
Again, thanks for your time and consideration.
Best,
Tom Waltz
Writer: Gene Simmons ZIPPER
P.S. I love IMMORTAL IRON FIST, too, Julius Brown. Good stuff!

Agreed. I've been with the series from the beginning and it's one of the first books I read the day a new issue comes out. Good stuf!

Great first issue. I haven't really checked out this book but I'm definitely gonna hunt it down now.
Might I also add, Gene's 1978 solo album was HIGHLY underrated. Not as good as Ace's, but definitely more diverse and a fun listen. Good times!

I liked it too. Pretty good.
That being said --the preview pages are too small and difficult to read. If you're gonna do a free preview make it big enough to read.
Also I would not have chosen the title " Zipper". It's a comical title and even though the alien has a Jackie Chan type feel to him the overall story has a serious tone.
But otherwise enjoyable.

Great series
It's a solid book. I've been on it since the first issue. The first issue does a great job of setting the tone for the series. Also, Waltz and Maloney work extremely well together. If you like this one, check out their(Tom and Casey) other book Children of the Grave. It's a military horror book also put out by IDW. They recently reissued it. In color even.

GENE SIMMONS ZIPPER SERIES
I read the first 3 issues and honestly... I loved it!!!!!!! My favorite of the Gene Simmons Comics Group / IDW titles. Kinda got a Borg thing going on. Tom has done a great job and if you like this issue, it only gets better in the next two. Jazan Wild

...As someone who personally knows two groupies who managed to get nailed by Gene back in the 80's, according to them his tongue is far more "stimulating" than what's behind his Zipper.

Great Book
I picked these up at first i was gonna pass them up but this one and Dominatrix actually had great art and solid to excellent stories that made them worth getting(my store cuts 25 % off for people with lists) so i got em for about 3 a pop. Very well done not like most products with a notable persons name on them. Good writing sir, please keep this book around.

I was at a scifi convention this weekend and in one panel Harlan Ellison was asked what comics he would recommend, one of them was Gene Simmons Zipper. I was like wow pretty cool.
