THE MAN WITH NO NAME: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLIER #1
Dynamite has provided Newsarama with a first look at May’s Man With No Name: The Good, The Bad And The Uglier #1, the continuation of the iconic MGM franchise.
The solicitation for the issue reads:
DIAMOND ORDER CODE: MAR08 3588
Rating: TEEN+
Covers: Richard Isanove
Writer: CHRISTOS GAGE
Penciller/Inker: WELLINGTON DIAS
Colorist: Bruno Hang
From its iconic imagery, stars and score, MGM's "Man with no Name" trilogy is a modern masterpiece of cinema! And now, the legend comes to life once again as the next new series from Dynamite!
Starring the ultimate anti-hero, and under the helm of writer Christos (New Avengers) Gage and artist Wellington Dias, MAN WITH NO NAME: THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLIER #1 follows in the powerful wake of such Dynamite titles as The Lone Ranger and Zorro in its faithful and successful genre-defining Western comics! Plus: MAN WITH NO NAME: THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLIER #1 follows the characters and plots of the film serving as a sequel to the critically acclaimed series!
Featuring series covers by Richard (Dark Tower) Isanove as well as a special 1-10 altenrate "zombie" cover by Arthur Suydam, Dynamite's MAN WITH NO NAME: THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLIER #1 is the next bullet in the chamber for 2008!

Christos Gage is a great writer, and this has some nice interior art, but I REALLY don't understand the zombie cover. Seems kinda silly....

If I may offer, I think it's a "death" cover, not a zombie cover.

You know, I do like Suydam's zombie covers, but I really think they're oversaturating the market with them. I don't see the logic in putting a zombie cover on a book that has nothing to do with zombies.
However, I will check out this series. (With the REGULAR covers.) Dynamite has been publishing some wonderful books lately.

I love this movie series and I think Gage should be able to pull this off.
However, how can the colorist be TBD if the book is colored?
And a zombie cover seems dumb.

But it says "as well as a special 1-10 altenrate "zombie" cover by Arthur Suydam" right in the solicitation. Including the typo.
And yes, I'm sick of zombie covers (and books, for that matter) too.

So is the colorist actually going by the name, "TBD" or is that really "too be determined?"

The colorist is probably Richard Isanove, because I'm positive that's not his cover.

I'd imagine the colorist was TBD @ the time the solicitation was written, and they just haven't bothered to update it, which is bad form when including it with a colored preview

Wasn't it High Plains Drifter where Clint's character shot the hell out of a bunch of people in a barber shop?

Isanove's cover is at the bottom right row of the thumbnails. The one at the top is Suydam.

Can't wait to read #1.
I've asked for the Suydam variant cover so hopefully I get that one.

What the hell do Zombies have to do with The Man With No Name?.
The whole Zombie thing is dumb when Marvel does it, but it's just sad when other publishers do it to.

I'll definitely be checking this out, still whish they'd gone with my idea and done two more companion books to go allong with it; one with the Mifune character from Yojimbo, and the other with the Continental Op from Red Harvest, all essentially following the same story to the logical ends in their respective times and genres- Western, Samurai Adventure and Hard Boiled Detective. And all under the same banner The Man With No Name.
It'd probably have cost them an arm and a leg to get the two other licenses though.
And judging by the looks of it I don't think they acquired the rights to use Eastwoods likeness, since it looks nothing like him. May also explain the covers, if they had paid for Eastweood's face you know you'd see it blazoned across both covers.
Still they've captured the mood and tone of the flicks, that's what counts.

WTF? Both covers Blow chunks!
I'm not feeling it....this coming from a Spaghetti Western fan.
Now, I do like the silent begining. It doesn't capture the style of Leone. But it tries...so, I'm still willing to give it shot.

Yep. I was thinking of HPD when I saw these pics. I guess they didn't get permission to use Clint Eastwood's likeness, not that they bother to get permission with Jonah Hex at DC!

I am getting pretty sick of Arthur Suydam covers. I know he can do more than just zombies. It is pretty sad that he is so type cast now

I knew there was something wrong!
Look at this:
I think they're going with a more The Outlaw Josey Wales look.
I shouldn't be too critical.
But I can't help myself.

There are two kinds of people in the world, my friend: Those who are going to buy this comic, and those who dig.
*******
Does this mean we'll get to see Tuco again? Or maybe The Colonel?
