WAR HEROES #1
Image has provided Newsarama with an exclusive first look inside June’s War Heroes #1 by Mark Millar and Tony Harris, the next “Millarworld” title of the current wave which also includes Kick-Ass from Marvel’s ICON imprint.
" War Heroes is everything I've been leading up to with Civil War, Ultimates, The Authority, Kick-Ass and Wanted," said Millar. "In a way, it's the culmination of superhero concepts I've thus far only dreamed about, brought to fruition due to Tony's artwork beautiful line work and the unique creative freedom Image Comics provides. Consider this our Ultimates 3. War Heroes is a grand step away from superheroes as you previously perceived them. Tony and I are doing this without any restriction, completely uncensored, taking superheroes to their next evolutionary step."
As the series is described by Image:
In an America not too far off from our own, terrorism has scorched the Earth. Our once great nation has shattered into a bastardized, third world version of its previous self. When traditional tactics prove obsolete in this new country, America's military force turns to the last weapon with any hope of - superhumanity.
War Heroes #1 (of 6) will be in stores June 25th, 2008.

Harris is one of the best and Millar is always great with these political/superhero thrillers

This'll be good. I'm not a huge fan of Millar doing Marvel's character, but I don't see how this can't be entertaining. Plus, it's Tony Harris. I'd buy it for that reason alone.

I'll be looking for this. Millar's stuff doesnt usually appeal to me, but this might. On the other hand, Tony Harris could draw the phone book and I'd buy it.

Probably not.
Millar and Harris have made mention of having a project together for a while.
If Harris has been working on this between Machina it may be already finished or at least almost finished.
Don't forget, he said he already finished the recent Spider-Man mini before it ever got solicited.

Damn! Is that Cincinnati going up? I thought things always happened 20 years late here! (At least according to Twain anyway.)

Who cares? Millar's writing it. You know you're gonna read it.

Ah, so it's an America that's been destroyed. That's why Millar's wanted to tell its story.
Anyways, the premise is tired to me. But man, Harris' artwork is so beautiful uncolored.

A book about superheroes working for the government doesn't quite fall under the category of "a grand step" or a "next evolutionary step" for the superhero concept.

That makes it sound a bit like Brian Wood's DMZ, with superheroes. Not sure that's a good idea.

I loved Millar on the Ultimates, his military tact and superhero mix with known characters is fantastic... I can only imagine what he will do with originals. Count me IN

"Nobody wanted to be a soldier anymore?" Really? This story must take place in Bizarro America because we've never had a shortage of brave men and women willing to lay their lives on the line for their country. And this is coming from a disabled Army vet who'd do it all again for love of country.
Anyway, I'll see if I can suspend my disbelief and enjoy the book.
As always, Tony Harris' art looks absolutely fabulous!
