FIRST LOOK: ALEX ROSS AGE OF TV HEROES COVER

Newsarama is proud to show Alex Ross’ latest work – the cover to the upcoming Age of TV Heroes book by George Khoury and Jason Hofius, due in November from Two Morrows Publishing.

The subject of the book is pretty obvious, given the title, and the lineup – George Reeves, Superman; Adam West, Batman; Lynda Carter, Wonder Woman and Jackson Bostwick, Captain Marvel.

Look for more on the book in the coming months, and click the image below for a larger version.

Hmm, so that's why those four are Alex Ross' Big Four.

Wow, you mean DC was okay with Adam West-era Batman being illustrated?

Here's Hoping Heroes hit the small screen more...

Outside of the Direct to DVD market, there is a lot of opportunity for these same characters to make a comeback to the small screen.

There are a lot of 70's kids that have grown-up with fond memories of these images wearing the cape, the cowl, the tiara, and say the magic word.

Time to get a new generation aboard to the DC Universe (with the masks and secret identities...Smallville does not count) and this time without the camp.

Look forward to this publication in any case...

Alex Ross captured the timeless beauty of Lynda Carter, endowed Bostwick with a sense of majesty, serious-ized Adam West, and brought out the awe that was George Reeves' Superman. Having the guy illustrate this cover was a no-brainer!

Now that's frickin' beautiful. I really hope Warner can work out an arrangement with Fox to release 60s Batman on DVD.

Over here in the UK I don't think a week (or possibly even day) goes by when you can't find the 60s Batman on one or more channels.

It still has a huge cult following and whilst its camp and silly it's the superhero TV show that more people in the world remember and ever will remember than any other.

This painting is fantastic, but I feel like Ross did a terrible job of capturing George Reeves' likeness. The other three look spot on, but that just doesn't look like George Reeves to me.
Still a beautiful image either way.

Gorgeous. I wonder if there was much hassle getting the rights to use the actors likenesses...

Where's Robin? or even Flash? They've both been on TV as well.

I hope Alex see's that Lynda makes a much better model for WW than one he uses sometimes. The serene beauty and not the man face...big difference.

Without a doubt an awesome cover, but seeing the Adam West Batman makes me shudder no matter how well it's drawn, LOL!

Yes, I watched this as a kid, but nothing solidified the image of comics being immature kiddie fare more than that 60's TV show.

Other comic book TV shows might have been watered down or just plain bad, but the Batman show cast comics in general in a class of art that could never be taken seriously.

It was unfortunately so popular and so silly that I think only recently have we largely erased that damage due to the recent wave of decent comic book movies closer to the source material.

I've no problem with a campy super-hero, but it was just unfortunate that it became the public's idea of what all comics were or could be. Sort of funny that it was one based on one of comic's darkest characters!

But yes, I'm off topic - that cover is gorgeous!

Ross took that Wonder Woman pose straight from the ads from The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
