HERO INITIATIVE/MARVEL TEAM FOR 100 HULK COVER BENEFIT

Press Release
Last year, The Hero Initiative, the charity dedicated to helping older comic creators in medical or financial need, enlisted the aid of 100 top-flight Spider-Man artists throughout history to create The Ultimate Spider-Man #100 Project, a collection of 100 original Spider-Man covers. Hero is reprising the program with something meaner and greener.

Marvel Comics has generously donated 100 blank-covered cardstock copies of the new Hulk #1 to Hero. The call has gone out to create a new, Hulk-centric “Ultimate 100,” and dozens of artists are currently putting pen to paper. Artists involved include well-known Hulk vets such as Sal Buscema, Mike Deodato Jr., Ron Garney, Ed McGuinness, Don Perlin, Herb Trimpe, Ron Wilson, and more. In addition, Marvel superstars such as J. Scott Campbell, John Cassaday, Frank Cho, David Finch, Joe Quesada and John Romita Sr. have stepped up to add their own take on ol’ Greenskin.

“It’ll be tough to beat what we saw last year with the Spider-Man books,” said Hero Initiative Board member Brian Pulido. “But folks are really stepping up to the plate already with some amazing Hulk pieces. It’s great to see them as they roll in!”

“After witnessing the overwhelming industry participation and fan response to the Ultimate Spider-Man #100 Project, Marvel is excited to be working with the Hero Initiative once again on such a unique and beneficial project. It’s quite inspiring to watch the comic book community come together so selflessly to support those who came before them. And what better way to honor the pioneers of our industry, then by creating one-of-a-kind cover illustrations of one of the most iconic heroes of all time, the Incredible Hulk,” said Marvel Publisher Dan Buckley.

All 100 original Hulk covers will be auctioned at a later date, with proceeds benefiting The Hero Initiative. Plans also call for a book collecting all 100 covers. The first covers received will be on display publicly for the first time at the Orlando MegaCon, taking place March 7-9 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. For more information on that event, please visit www.MegaConvention.com

It bothers me when they call him greenskin....just a history with that kind of word.

But I hope this goes even better than last time...very good cause to support.

I wholeheartedly agree with that but hey, it wouldn't be McFarlane without him being a bit of a prick. :-)

I wouldn't be surprised if there was one in time for Baltimore. I'm not sure but I'm guessing just because the Spider-Man HC came out just in time for it last year.

What's the story behind that anyway? He did a Spider-Man cover for charity, but refused to allow it into the collection, that was for the same good cause?

Since Ed McGuinness drew a Hulk sketch for the Spiderman 100...is he going to draw Spiderman for the Hulk 100?

Can I send them my money for the trade right now? I have the Spidey book, and I love it!

Now, can we peer pressure DC into doing Superman and Batman versions?

@ Melperfect

He bidded on (and won) his own book. They put out some of the books during the Cons in early March (MegaCon in Orlando, NYCC) My friend actually won the Serigo Areones (whatever his name is, The "Groo" guy) got a COA and sent it straight to the CGC table to get it slabbed and turned a good profit if I'm not mistaken.

Some of the books went cheap, like the Groo cover. Clayton Crain's went for cheap, cuz most people there didn't know who he was at the time. (His cover was awesome!) Like 250-300 bucks cheap, I was shocked. I would of bidded if I knew they were going to go that low. Some of course (like McFarlane's) went for 9,000 bucks on Ebay.

Hero Initiative is a great idea, and I how they get some books out in time for MegaCon this year, I'm gonna bid.

REEEED HUUUUULLK!!

It's like crack. And this will definitely add to that. Can't wait to see if there'll be a trade with all of these. I simply love the colour-pieces, and I sure hope there's lots of them in this one.

It, errm, makes it easier for the fans to tell wich version of our favourite that is featured. ^^
