REYNOLDS, KITSCH, & WILL.I.AM JOIN WOLVERINE CAST

Is this a Wolverine movie, or a ‘90s era Wolverine comic, chock-full of guest stars?

According to Variety three more cast members have been added to X-Men Origins: Wolverine: Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Taylor (Friday Night Lights) Kitsch as Gambit and hip-hop musician will.i.am as John Wraith.

What, no Maverick?

The three join Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth, Danny Huston as Col. William Stryker, Lynn Collins as Kayla Silver Fox, and of course, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. The film, directed by Gavin Hood, is currently filming in New Zeland, and is slated to open in theaters on May 1st, 2009.

Twentieth Century Fox has added three more superheroes to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," with Ryan Reynolds set to play Deadpool, "Friday Night Lights" regular Taylor Kitsch to star as Gambit and hip-hop artist will.i.am joining the cast as John Wraith.

From Variety:

Marvel has been eyeing the possibility of casting Reynolds as Deadpool, an assassin with self-healing powers, for some time with the idea of spinning off the character into his own film series should the character prove popular among moviegoers.

Fox and Marvel have also long wanted to add the card-throwing character of Gambit to the "X-Men" franchise but could never find a way to give him enough screen time among the many other mutants that have appeared in each film.

According to rumors (which had called Reynolds and Kistch earlier this week), the Blob may be making an appearance in the film as well.

John Wraith, a.k.a. Kestrel, is a character in the Marvel comics fictional universe. Kestrel was a member of Team X and later a test subject of the Weapon X Program.

Great, Wil-i-am will be in this movie. There is nothing worse than rappers in movies. Hopefully he will die quick.

A few of my friends and I have often talked about who would make the best Deadpool in a movie and Ryan Reynolds' name keeps on popping up. I'm glad we TOTALLY called this one. The guy they got to play Gambit, looks wise, is pretty spot on.

Ryan Reynolds has been begging to play Deadpool for years now, finally got his wish. He is funny, if they give him the right lines he going to be great.

They all sound good inclusions... with maybe the exception of Gambit. Depends what role he plays in the movie, I have the same feelings about Blob. If Gambit is a thief raiding Weapon X, or is in some other role that suits his character then that's cool. I just hope they don't include any character just for the sake of having them as they did with Psylocke in X3.

And hey, I would LOVE to see Maverick in this movie...make Gambit just a cameo, but feature Maverick as part of the Team X group.

This is fantastic news. I just hope and pray that they give Deadpool actually funny lines. I also hope they don't just make Gambit a Weapon X character too, just to get him into the film...same with the Blob. Although maybe I'd be okay with that...not sure. Just Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool is awesome.

It sounded great up until Will.i.am's name popped up on the list. Seriously? You mean to tell me he's the best black actor they could find? His presence isn't going to draw any more fans to see the movie, so what's the point? I really wish these producers would stop handing out roles to untrained rappers. It was bad enough when American Gangster littered the film with rappers basically as set pieces. Ugh.

dude thats more than a bit ignorant, im not say that all rappers are amazing actors but ice cube was good im 3 kings and boys in the hood and mos def is a good actor full stop. at least give a brother a chance, on the wolverine film its self its gonna be sick as bitches

Will.I.Am doesn't really inspire confidence in me to play John Wraith. The dude's tiny and is a bit too clean cut to play a grizzled soldier. I just saw a recent video of him performing with Celine Dion and he looked like a child compared to her.

A always thought Maverick was a great, under-used character.

Nah, if the black gut dies first people will complain saying its racist.

Besides Will smith is a rapper too and he's a good actor so i'm giving this dude the benifit of the doubt.

I think Ryan Reynolds is a good casting choice.

His role in various romantic comedies has shown his flare for the wisecrack, and Blade Trinity has demonstrated he can do action as well when he played Hannibal King.
