VAL KILMER TO VOICE KITT FOR NBC'S KNIGHT RIDER

According to Variety, Val Kilmer will replace Will Arnett as the voice of KITT in NBC’s revival of its Knight Rider franchise.

Arnett had already completed his part for the project – a backdoor pilot for a full-on new possible Knight Rider series, when it was learned that he had to be replaced. As the trade reports, Arnett was asked by GM to remove himself from Knight Rider, due to the fact that he has been the “voice of GMC Trucks” for the nearly ten years. The new KITT is played by a Ford Mustang, and Ford, according to Variety is “taking an active role in the marketing and branding of the pic.”

"I was very excited at the prospect of playing the part of KITT in the new 'Knight Rider' movie," Arnett told Variety. "However, because of a long relationship with General Motors as the voice of GMC Trucks, I had to respectfully withdraw from the project."

So does Will only ride in GMC trucks in all his television and movie roles?

Good question. Maybe this is the real reason Arrested Development got cancelled. Too many scenes with Will driving a segway!

That's too bad. I was looking forward to the obligatory, "Come on, Michael!"

Have they learned nothing from Transformers? Get William Daniels to do the voice of K.I.T.T and the hardcores will love you...

this makes it sound like the new Knight Rider show will just be a glorified ad for Ford...

(like the comic book Rush City was for whatever car company that was)

I am a big Val Kilmer fan these days so I like the news (He hasn't been in a lot, but I have said many times that if "Spartan" had been made ten years earlier, when he was big star, it would have been huge. What a good movie.

Is that Arnet in the GMC you Tube clip linked above? If it is I will never hear those commercials the same. Now that I know it is him it sounds like he is doing a parody low-tough-guy voice

Good point. When a corporation "owns" a employee like that, it's downright scary. No wonder we have to have unions (Go WGA, BTW).

Well, Ford has had their vehicles featured in a lot of TV shows and films (watch the end credits) in the past. This is the only instance where one of their cars is a principal prop, but not the first time (or the last ) that a show will be based on a commercial.

Not quite; I don't think they've ever aired on Fox, but the bridge segments produced for the 24 DVD sets are big ol' Ford commercials.

I blame the "Island of Dr Moreau" remake!!!

I thought I read/heard somewhere he's shilling autographs at those horror/sci-fi conventions...

Well, there went the last shred of interest I had in the Knight Rider re-vamp.
Thanks, Val Kilmer. You suck!!

Just wondering... why Val Kilmer?

Don't blame Val Kilmer, Mostly Human. Blame the producers that chose (and got) him.

It just seems blasphemous to me have David Hasselhoff in a new Knight Rider (in some capacity) without having William Daniels voicing KITT as well. At least have him voice KITT in the beginning before switching over.

I don't like the idea of Val Kilmer as KITT's voice. I'll try to live with it, though, he can pull off the same sort of personality Daniels did.

Agreed, they should at least give Daniels a cameo as KITT's "original voice modulator" or something before he gets an upgrade.
