NORTHLANDERS #3

After coming home to mourn his father only to learn that his uncle Gorm has taken the land and power that is rightfully his by birth, Sven’s journey to regain his inheritance continues in this week’s Northlanders #3 by Brian Wood and Davide Gianfelice.

DC has provided us with a preview of the issue, and so, we turned to Wood to set things up for us…

“This is kind of like setting up a clip, isn't it? Okay, so our main guy, Sven, is one man pitted against a Viking settlement run like a crime syndicate by his corrupt uncle Gorm. Despite being skilled in the arts of war, Sven knows he can't prevail in a straight fight against an entire village, so he goes for the insurgent tactics. After having found out (via a very sexy and very naked slave girl) that Gorm is superstitious to a fault, Sven ambushes this hunting party and plays off Gorm's paranoia.

"This is part 3 of 8, and in this issue Sven strikes a mighty blow. Issue #4, his fortunes are reversed, quite painfully. In issue #5, we get to see how it all began, why Sven is who he is and what caused this son of a Viking lord to turn so dramatically away from his own people and culture. #6 and #7 are wall to wall battle and bloodshed as Sven's one man war engulfs the entire island. I won't say anything about the final issue yet, except that if anyone thinks they know where this is going, I doubt you do.”

Great read!

I know its only the 3rd issue, but this series is nothing short of awesome. I can't get enough. An interesting, often over looked time period brought to life by an amazing creative team. Love it!

Thumbs up

Now that Y is over, it's great to have a new Vertigo title to jump on from the start. Even though Wood and Vaughn have completeley different stlyes, they both write engrosing stories with great characters. Ex Machina and DMZ rock too.

I'd been eagerly anticipating this book for month, and so far, it hasn't disappointed.
I'm in for the long haul.

I read the first two issues today, and this series is great! I can't wait for issue 3, and future issues.

It is. The interview is largely limiting the discussion to the first storyline.

Yeah, just to clarify: Northlanders is an ongoing title. This first arc runs till issue #8. After that is a 2-parter, and then another longer story arc.

Sorry for the confusion.

Hey Brian Wood

Hey Brian,

just curious with vertigo canceling everything left and right, just tell me that DMZ is safe. I just saw Jason Aaron at a signing and almost made him swear on his mother's life(I hate the Bible, seriously, everybody loves their mom more than the bible) and he said Scalped is good to go. So, Bri, Love DMZ and Narthlanders, how long do you see each book going? I'll buy two if I hafta
