Next Issue Project from Image Comics

Another golden age revival for many public domain heroes, but this time, they're starting where they left off, literally.

Each double sized anthology issue released will be a continuation of where the series ended back in the 30s,40s or 50s.Lots of big names involved such as Joe Casey,Erik Larsen,Mike Allred, Kyle Baker, Frank Cho, Bill Sienkiewicz, Howard Chaykin, Steve Niles, Phil Hester, Jay Faerber, Steve Gerber, and Jim Valentino.

First issue ships on the 13th of Feb,definitely check it out if you're currently loving the Twelve or Superpowers.

Definitely checking it out. Allred alone is enough to sell that puppy, not to mention all the other greats involved.

these are going to be great, but the heavy price has me hoping that they don't come out too frequently.

i can't handle a $6 monthly series right now!!

Of all the Golden Age retro stuff, this is the one that I'm looking forawrd to most. The talent involved is enough, plus I like the guidelines of having them continue from Golden Age stories. I just hope that the writing isn't purposely goofy.

ONE FANS OPINION:NEXT ISSUE PROJECT

Is $6.00 really the cost for each issue? That seems so expensive and risky that I have to question the wisdom of such a price...

...this coming from a guy who gives away comics for free...

While I really enjoy the return of these GA characters, I have to wonder why they didn't go the same route as SuperPowers Project or The Twelve.

yeah, i don't get it. 64 pages is double the size of a regular comic, so it shouldn't be anymore than $4.99.

Image comics don't contain ads. In regular comics, you generally get only 22 actual pages of story, and if you double it, its only 44 pages for $4.99. Here, you get 20 more pages for $4.99. Its a good deal.

change that last 4 to a 5. all of the Next Issue Project covers so far say $5.99 on them.

i'm still buying these regardless of the price though. Erik Larsen has gathered a huuuge pool of talent for these things.

Also, these are Golden Age dimensions, so they're slightly larger than regular comics. Plus, they're being printed on a different type of paper than regular comics. I'm sure Image had to put some additional money into the printing of these, so $5.99 is probably not that unreasonable.

The first issue comes out tomorrow, Wednesday, 2/13/08. They are like magazine size and impressive to see. I didn't look inside however.

Really looking forward to this one. Don't know if my shop had enough time to order me one though, I might have to wait until next week.

I bought it and read half of it last night. The package is beautiful. The art is mostly great. So far the stories are pretty variable. I'll buy the first few solely for the package and art and see how the series pans out. It's definitely an interesting idea and once you hold the thing in your hands the price doesn't seem out of hand at all.

I'm also abou halfway though. The Larsen "story" was pretty bad. But the Joe Casy-Sienkiwicz story and the Golden Knight story were great fun. There's certainly enough to keep me buying. The Vacutex ad on the back is hysterical. I hope that its a fake!

Can't wait to read the Allred Stardust, but I've got to work.

They're not on a schedule. Each installment features self-contained short stories, and the books will be published when they're ready. You can read them in any order, too.
