That art is incredible. Not sure if I can hold out for the trade.

I'd probably purchase a piece of dog poo of Noto had drawn on it. That said, I didn't even know this was out and HAVE to go and grab it when I'm at the store tomorrow. Noto=modern master.

Pages are too small making the text hard to read in some places.

glad you're all digging it - the 2nd issue is at the printer as we speak and Phil and I are will be shipping 3 out the door soon.
Phil and I will be at Emerald City and WonderCon in the coming months too -- look us up.
Thanks to Matt and everybody at Newsarama for posting the first full issue.
Happy New Year!
PS - if any of you are looking for the first issue in stores- the cover featured above is sold out - a re-print with a new cover from Phil should be arriving with issue 2 in January. Here's the new cover available this month:

...Having been burned by indy books in the past - you know, you get hooked, then the publisher goes belly-up and the creators are too busy having to work extra hours at Taco Bell to get back out of debt to find another publisher - I took a chance with this one. I sincerely hope that this book survives, and finds a serious reader base that will allow it to survive, because the first issue shows it's going to be *that* good a read.

As a classics fan, I have often thought that the Odyssey should be re-imagined and set in the modern world. This way it could avoid the distancing effect of costume drama / sword-and-sandals epic (let alone Ray Harryhausen type monsters). "Cold Mountain" was a recent example where this was attempted, to good effect. (That substituted the hypothetical, alternate, pessimistic ending which I actually prefer. I wonder what choice the comic will make?)
I like what I have seen so far. Of course different people will stress different themes from the original, and certain liberties are unavoidable. I notice for example that here, the Americans seem to have lost the Middle Eastern war, whereas Odysseus and his crew were among the victors. (Of course, it is hard to imagine a successful military action resulting in long delays in returning home...oh, wait! ) And I am wondering what will become of the gods. Can Athena somehow be adapted for a primarily monotheistic society--as an angel, perhaps--or would that be too garish?
In any case, may the blessings of the muses descend upon the creators!

Looks like it's shaping up to be a postapocalyptic story, with the soldiers making their way through a world that has collapsed economically and politically. My guess is that the analogs with the Odyssey will be non-supernatural, perhaps science-fictional.
Seems to me like the setup would be just as good a take-off point for a reimagining of Xenophon's Anabasis!

Thanks for the reassurance, Duggan. I've felt the same way with certain titles. Phil Jimenez' Otherworld was one of the many titles I supported that suffered this demise... and this from one of the Big Three!
As a result, I've tended to shy away from several new titles after having been burned a few times. Given today's tightening economy, I've had to whittle down or more importantly, shied away from giving yet-to-be-established books a chance. I bought ish #1 on the sheer, cool artistry of the cover. After reading the issue I was extremely satisfied to discover that the interior story and art was just as great. Thanks, man. I'll stick around for each issue and not just wait for the trade.

This was really good.
If I don't get the singles, I'll definitely pick it up in trade at some point.

I LOVE this book. I read the preview at Comic-Con '07 and couldn't wait to buy the full issues. Beautiful art and creative storytelling. Keep it up guys!
