LAPHAM STARTS NEW ONGOING SERIES @ VERTIGO IN MARCH

Creator David (Stray Bullets) Lapham has recently made his home at DC’s Vertigo imprint with his OGN Silverfish earlier this year, and starting in early 2008, he’ll be launching a new ongoing project under the imprint - Young Liars. Lapham will both write and draw the new color series.

Look for an interview with Lapham in the coming days here at Newsarama, but in the meantime, the solicitation for the first issue reads:

YOUNG LIARS #1
Written by David Lapham
Art and cover by Lapham

Indie comics auteur and SILVERFISH creator David Lapham hasn’t embarked on a monthly series since STRAY BULLETS, his magnum opus that garnered industry awards and international acclaim. Now Lapham’s back with YOUNG LIARS, his first full-color monthly series, about a group of misfits and their desperate attempt to salvage their crushed dreams.

“I haven’t had this much fun since my Uncle Chuck took me on a crime spree in the fourth grade.” — David Lapham

At the core of YOUNG LIARS is the disturbing relationship between Danny Noonan, a habitual liar and crap guitar player from Texas, and Sadie Dawkins, the object of his desire. Sadie was a poor little rich girl until a bullet lodged in her brain turned her into an adrenaline junkie who only listens to Danny.

But who shot Sadie is only part of the mystery that drives YOUNG LIARS, from the twisted club scene of lower Manhattan to absurdist hijinx on the high seas. And from the hot shores of Ibiza to the haunted castles of Spain, Danny, Sadie and their entourage of losers will run from poorly disguised assassins, demented billionaires, and psychotic midgets — not to mention each other — in an absurd quest to get rich and famous. Or kill each other trying. YOUNG LIARS will provide relentless action, suspense, sex and murder in the way that only David Lapham can deliver.
A sneak peek will run in DMZ #28. Watch for a graphic trailer at dccomics.com.

Exciting news. I'm a huge fan of Lapham. Coincidentally, I'm actually sitting here in a Stray Bullets t-shirt right now...

There goes any hope of ever seeing more stray bullets, curse you Lapham! His art looks better in B&W too.

Looks like a hoot, in an AMY RACECAR vein. Clearly his best, most personal work for the "Big Two", anyway.

I will gladly buy this as long as I'm promised some sort of conclusion to Stray Bullets.

It doesn't have to be today or tomorrow just as long as it's before society collapses in 2012.

The people need answers!

Feh. Stray Bullets had me for a while, but I soon just lost interest. Lapham's work just doesn't really grab me.

If you have family that loves you, ask them to buy you STRAY BULLETS for Christmas.

It's just about the best thing out there.

It sounds good, nothin g that really grabs me like the premise of American Virgin did but I might give it a try, after a few collections; I still am mad about American Virgin cancellation.

Where do you buy it?? Lapham hasn't had a website in years. He's SO SO talented but has done such a bad job at managing the Stray Bullets library: that should be an evergreen series that just sells and sells similar to the Bone phenomenon. Oh yeah, and it's disappointing there's never any acknowledgment that he never finished or tied up the dangling SB ongoing.

Oh yeah, did the fourth oversized hardcover ever ship?? I know I preordered it. The first 3 books are gorgeous and really ahead of their time.

Check out amazon for the sorry state of the SB library kept in print.

David Lapham already explained the problems with keeping STRAY BULLETS in print when we spoke with him about SILVERFISH earlier this year.
http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=110197

Nobody feels worse about it than he does (and yes, he has acknowledged it), but if you dig his work, putting more money in his pocket's probably a good way to ensure the he'll get back to STRAY BULLETS sooner rather than later.

Not bad. I liked Lapham's Detective work, so I might give this a shot. Not my usual cup of tea, but I'm willing to try new flavors.
