WONDER WOMAN #14
A long time coming, Gail Simone’s first issue of Wonder Woman (#14) hits next week, and DC Comics has provided Newsarama with your first look inside its pages.
Back in April, when we announced Simone as the new writer on the series, Simone described Wonder Woman and the challenges writing the character as: “The book is about the best goddamned warrior planet Earth has ever known, and she happens to carry a mystical arsenal around just for the hell of it.
“If a writer can’t make that interesting and fun, they really shouldn’t be writing superheroes.
“There are layers upon layers of the character, and we’ll get to them all. But let’s just make it very clear that Diana is the premiere asskicker in the DCU, period. Batman and Superman have other things that make them special. Diana is the one who occasionally carries an axe if someone gives her lip.
“This is actually in my first issue, but the quote is, ‘When a giant robot attacks Metropolis, send Superman. An alien attack? Get Green Lantern. When a car is hijacked by an escaped loony, turn on the bat signal, by all means. But if an ARMY shows up on your doorstep, that’s when you call in Wonder Woman.’”
Simone is joined on the series by the husband/wife art team of Terry and Rachel Dodson.
The solicitation for the issue reads:
An electrifying new era begins for the world's greatest superheroine! Gail Simone (BIRDS OF PREY, SECRET SIX) joins the phenomenal art team of Terry and Rachel Dodson for what promises to be one of the most exciting Wonder Woman stories ever told!
What exactly is The Circle, and what deadly secret do they hold about Diana's birth? What familiar face from Wonder Woman's past returns with a mission to spy on Special Agent Diana Prince? Why is the Department of Metahuman Affairs on a collision course with the wounded remnants of the Society of Super-Villains? You won't want to miss any of this story that spans the globe and shakes Diana to her core!

I hope Gail is the shot in the arm this book needs. It's a shame they didn't get her on from the floor. The Dodsons complement this title well.

Gail Simone on anything is gold! She has created two of the best characters of the year already in Birds of Prey and Atom: Misfit and Head. I can't wait to see what she comes up with in WW.

I'm glad to finally get to see that monkey getting punched off a waterfall like Gail's been promising! I can't say how much my wife has been looking forward to this issue. Now if we can get Gail to visit some conventions on the east coast to get it signed... :P

This is perfect.
Gail is just perfect in anything she writes, and the art remains beautiful.

I was sold on this project the moment I found Gail Simone was writing it, since I'd read her take on Wonder Woman in the pages of "Birds of Prey."
Then again, "Atom" never quite gelled for me. This preview seals the deal, though: that's the Wonder Woman I want to read about.

too bad DC created so much ill will surrounding the severly botched revamp
I bet that wasn't part of their master plan

After being bored out of my mind with issues 2-13 of this volume of Wonder Woman, I was really on the fence about this book, even with Gail Simone. But, seeing this preview, and seeing that the Dodsons are back to being the series's regular artists, I can definitely say that I will be picking this up.

It's delightful to see Wonder Woman written by somebody with an obvious love for the character - something that hasn't been true since Rucka left the book.

Sorry for quoting so much, but these words are going to make me buy my fist WW issue in nearly 20 years. Last one was a "War of the Gods" tie in.

I still wish DC had just returned to the previous series' numbering or given Gail a new number one as a clean break from these disappointing first thirteen issues. Still, it's good to finally see these preview pages and I look forward to seeing the entire issue.
Fingers crossed, though, that Gail restores Nemesis to being depicted as the driven badass character he was in the original BRAVE AND THE BOLD and SUICIDE SQUAD...

Actually, I liked the first issue. I'm a huge fan of the Dodsons, and I liked the idea of Donna Troy as Wonder Woman. Also, it had Giganta, and Dr. Psycho, and the Cheetah. It had me interested enough to read on for a while. At about issue 3, I just got sick of the book. The art was still great, but I didn't really care about Circe. When the arc failed to end, and then a new arc started with an almost identical plotline, and Circe was the villain again, I just stopped reading altogether. For the record, I stopped buying after the first issue, but my friend was buying every issue, so I read his copies.

I get a strong Frank Cho vibe from that cover. Must be all the ice-monkeys. Love the artwork the Dodsons have been producing.

The Dodsons and colorists make Wonder Woman look great! She is sexy and tasteful. Note to pencillers everywhere--see how Diana has a GREAT ass in these pics? See how it is NOT hanging out of thong with three stars on it? Yeah THIS is how it should look, please.

Astonishing. In five pages, Simone has managed to nail Wonder Woman - smart, witty, a brilliant hand to hand combatant and strategist, but then willing to put her life on the line to stop further violence from occurring.
Absolutely perfect. I've been waiting to pick this book up since I heard Simone was taking over as writer and now I'm even more stoked. The Dodsons seem inspired here, as well.
