WANTED TRAILER DEBUTS ONLINE

Pictures came out earlier, and now, the trailer for the film version of Wanted has made it's way to the net, and it's about as full of Angelina Jolie, Easy Reade...er, Morgan Freeman, James McAvoy, Terence Stamp, bullets, explosions and cars as you can get.

And still have a story. Kinda.

The film is based on the Wanted miniseries by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones (published by Top Cow), and stars McAvoy as Wes, a regular guy meandering through his typical, boring existence, until the Fox finds him, and tells him the truth - that his father didn't die when Wes was a boy, but rather, died recently and was one of the top assassins in the world. Fox then recruits Wes into the Fraternity where the members (led by Freeman) see if the son is like the father.

Click here for the Yahoo Movies link.

The movie, directed by Timur Bekmambetov is due in theaters on March 28, 2008.

So, it's not "Wanted" that I read, therefore I see no reason to see it. Why didn't they just call it Angelina Jolie Gun Shooter instead?

Hmm. I think it looks cool and I will definitely see it, I'm just a bit weirded out that they strayed away from the whole Supervillain thing and they are making it more a secret group of assassins. Hmm.
Morgan Freeman rules though. He wouldn't be in this movie if it wasn't awesome.

In movie terms, it looks sick.

But, I'm sorry, it ain't "Wanted" - the comic book. It just ain't.

At least they could've made the kid shave his freakin' head. And that's just the initial gripe I got with it. It just doesn't look like I would've envisioned it. I would've stayed more loyal to the book. No costumes? Blech...

I'll wait for the DVD.

Now "Hitman" looks like they got it right. Between "Wanted" and the rumors I keep hearing about the live action "Justice League", I think the comic books turned into bad movies days are returning....

It looks like they've ditched the whole superheroes angle altogether (interesting in of itself) but still it looks like an amazing movie. I suspect it will do Hellboy numbers...

What he said.

Not that I was a HUGE fan of the mini-series or anything... but still... :rolleyes

I'll pass, thanks...

wanted's a comic. not a movie.

if you want the comic, read the comic. if you are interested in seeing the themes and characters of that comic ADAPTED for a film, filtered through a director, a producer, and actors then you should go see this movie.

how have people not realized the movies are different from the comics by now? its been ____ing years of these movies. none of them are the same. get over it.

Here's hoping

On the action movie side, this looks good (maybe not great, but I'm hoping).

On the comic book side, there really is no reason to call this "Wanted," save for some names and the father son premise...

...but I guess including a guy made out of S$#% might have turned some of the movie execs off...(?)

Anyways, I'd love to see Mr. Tumnus dual-wielding, so here's hoping it's good!

Groovy!

I knew they were going to ditch the comic book super hero aspect, so I knew what to expect from the trailer. Should be a fun movie. Not Wanted as we know it, but still a good time.

It looks like a good movie. Who friggin' cares that it strayed away from the comic, IT'S A MOVIE see it for what it is, not what it isn't. As nickmaynard said, how many faithful adaptations have been made, not just about a comic, but a book as well? Not many.

I can understand dropping the superhero/villain and reality alteration stuff. It's pretty high concept and not all that necessary to the story of Wanted. Wanted was about getting you to cheer for a murdering, raping sociopath. It was about the uncomfortable feeling of rooting for unredeemable villains. Are you a chump for going to your 9-5 job day after day and settling for a woman who's not a supermodel?

This movie drops all that. The league of assassins are performing a necessary evil to maintain order in the world and save lives. It's just Angelina Jolie looking hot shooting up some ____ in slow motion. I think I'll pass. Angelina's past 30 and not that hot anymore, and besides she's crazy and apparently about as much fun in the sack as "____ing the couch".

i do echo what some people said -- i go to movies to have a good time, and i understand that sometimes, comic books are nearly impossible to translate into movies.

but i won't lose sleep over it if it's entertaining, and judging by that trailer, it just might be.

I can accept differences between a comic and a movie. However, when you change all of the core elements of the orginal story, it is no longer an adaptation. Wanted was about super-villains who defeated their super-heroes. This means that super-heroes and super-villains are essential parts to the story.

I am not saying the movie can't be good as its own thing. It just isn't an adaptation of the comic anymore than the I, Robot movie was an adaptation of the book.

yeah, but my question is this: if you'd never read "Wanted" but saw that trailer, would you go or not?

that's how i look at it -- is what i'm paying to see going to entertain me when i go see it? because as long as the spirit of the adapted material's there, i can honestly say i don't care, as long as the movie's entertaining.

I like it. They don't make comic based movies for comic fans. They make them for a widespread audience. I liked the comic and this looks cool to me as well. We are not the target audience....and I'm fine with that. I'll give it a shot. It may just prove to be a cool, kick ass flick.

Simple to answer, I wouldn't. And not just because of what it's not (Wanted) but because of what it appears to be: a boring retread of every action movie I've already seen in the past 10 years, with nothing original to recommend it but the barest skeleton of a plot that it borrowed from the comic.

And open your eyes, the "spirit" of the original material isn't there. Did you read Wanted?

I am not saying the movie won't be good. I am just saying that I will have to see it in the mindset that it isn't really an adaptation of Wanted.

To answer your question, if I liked the trailer, I would see the movie.

I'm going to assume you're basing all that on personal intimate experience and not from what you've picked up from "reputable" news sources like TMZ and The National Enquirer. Cause if that's the case...well, that's pretty sad.

I haven't read Wanted but the trailer here looks like just another post-Matrix, over-the-top, gun and cars movie.

It seems seriously lacking in attitude. My excitement has fizzled.
