BENDIS, BAGLEY TOGETHER AGAIN ON SPIDER-MAN DVD COMIC
If you, like thousands of other comics fans, are planning on picking up the DVD of Spider-Man 3 when it hits the street on October 29th, but weren’t quite sure where you were going to get it, Brian Bendis has some news that might help you decide.
“A few months ago, Sony hired me and Mark Bagley to do a one-shot comic of all new material that will be in the Spider-Man 3 DVD as a Wal-Mart Exclusive,” Bendis told Newsarama. “It fills in all of the bits about Venom that you didn’t get to see in the movie in a dot-connecting kind of way.”
According to Bendis, while Sony may have approached them, he already had an idea once they told him what they were looking for. “Sony suggested the angle of finding material that ‘happened’ in the movie, but didn’t make it to the screen,” Bendis said. “I had some ideas already of ways to pull things together from the film – like how Venom found Sandman, for instance. I had some ideas in my head, and I was thrilled to put them on paper. It got approved pretty quickly with no bumps in the road or anything – and hey – I’m working with Mark again, so there’s nothing wrong with that at all.”
And speaking of his collaborator, Bendis said that he did have a pang of guilt in writing the project which heavily includes Venom. “Mark can’t avoid the symbiotes anymore, I think,” Bendis said with a laugh. “They’re everywhere he goes – Ultimate Spider-Man had symbiotes just before he left, and then he’s on to Mighty Avengers, with more symbiotes, and this, which went like "Hey Mark want to do this Spider-Man DVD comic?”
“Sure! What’s in it?”
“Venom.”
“Symbiotes. Great. Goddamn symbiotes.”
The comic, written by Bendis, with pencils by Bagley, inks by Scott Hanna and edited by Nicole Boose is an extra included in copies of the DVD that will be sold at Wal-Mart.

Wow - I've got to pick up:
Doomsday Superman DVD
Transformers
FF II
Spidey 3
Say what you will about each individual movie, but if you go back just 7 years ago, II would never have thought this much comic goodness would be populating my DVD collection!
And a new Bendis/Bagley comic - I'm there!

looks good. But having watched the movie, it's going to ruin the comic for me. I can watch movies AFTER reading a book or comic, but not the other way around.

This is the worst reason to buy a DVD and I think Sony knows the movie stunk and is trying to lure in some of the people who were disappointed in it. They're pandering to the fanboy completist mentality and so many of you will fall for it. If Marvel released this issue with a $15.00 price tag, you'd be complaining left and right but because it comes with a movie most of us didn't really care for you'll somehow forgive it.

As someone who enjoyed the movie (no, it wasn't as good as 2 - but all you haters are much more forgiving of 1) I hate the whole 'store exlcusive' thing though. It cheapens the whole idea of the book.

Not to rip on any of the artistic talent involved, as it looks great for the most part, the Photoshop stained glass filter over Venom's costume looks cheesy. Everything else looks great.

bite your tongue! as much as spidey 3: the musical sucked ass, it was still better than a two-hour aunt may/peter conversation (I had enough of that in Spidey 2).

We Love Bagley.
This guy is so amazing (no pun intended). Not only does he draw great, not only does he have the dedication and professionalism to stay on a book for 111 issues without missing a deadline or a fill in BUT, many times during the year he doubled up and delivered 2x the goodness in a month (the months when Ultimate Spidey shipped bi-weekly).
This guy does not get enough acolades and because of the top quality work he and Bendis delivered, I remained a reader from 1-111.
You're dedicated to your readers and this reader is dedicated to supporting your work.
That said, I can't wait for Bagley's next project.
Maybe DC can sign him up to get some of their messy books back up to par.
What I wouldn't give to see Bagley on Superman... Monthly.

I love it how everyone hates on Spidey 3 but loves the first two. None of the Spidey movies were good. Sure the second had some really nice visuals, but the trilogy as a whole suffered from some of the worst dialouge Ive ever heard in a movie.

Perhaps if Wal-Mart didn't discriminate in their paying and promotion practices I would be able to have this.
But alas, Wal-Mart is evil.

i thought the first one was "fun" and good with a few great moments, the second was great with some cheesy dialog (you could tell they were trying for a "Stan Lee" feel which just doesn't translate well to "spoken") but the third one just failed on pretty much every level for me. (aside from a couple jaw-dropping FX bits like where Spidey saves Gwen)

I am not planning on getting the DVD, but if I was, a comic book would not be enough to entice me to shop at Walmart.
