HAWAIIAN DICK #1

Image Comics has provided Newsarama with a six page first look at Hawaiian Dick #1, the first issue of the ongoing series by B. Clay Moore and Scott Chantler. The issue kicks off the first arc, “Screaming Black Thunder.”

Moore stopped by to introduce the preview, saying:

“These are the first six pages in the first story arc of the new, ongoing Hawaiian Dick book. The art is by Scott Chantler, whose Northwest Passage was published by Oni, and who also previously drew the graphic novels Days Like This and Scandalous with J. Torres at Oni, as well as the first issue of the Tek Jansen comic book. Hawaiian Dick co-creator Steven Griffin handled the color and letters (and is contributing his own back-up story). This story picks up roughly where the last mini-series (The Last Resort) ends. In the four-part "Screaming Black Thunder," Byrd (the lead character) runs into a World War II fighting squadron he's long idolized, and helps them deal with the mysterious appearance of a Japanese Zero...in 1954 Hawaii.”

The 32 page first issue is due for release in November. Click on the thumbnails for larger versions.

Finally! What a wait, for a cool series.

I joke, it has well been worth the wait! I'll be looking for a copy.

Awesome Possum. I should probably reread Last Resort, as I just finished off Byrds of Paradise.

Here's to no Year Long Waits between issues this go around

This looks great!

I'm unbelievably psyched about the Hawaiian Dick ongoing. series. The two minis were top-notch and I'm sure that B. Clay and co won't disappoint!

Awesome.

I've been seeing these pages come together for months. Scott's really doing a beautiful job, and Griffin's coloring looks great over it.

Can't wait to read it...as Clay, has certainly not let any of his story slip.

Kind of Eisneresque. The big dude kind of looks like Dolan.

I like the dialogue. It was snappy and fresh.

Maybe I'll give it a shot.

I love the unique look of the book. It perfectly catches the retro feeling.

Keep it up guys!

Finally! If the art had the change hands, this was the way to do it. Looks great can't wait to be getting this on a regular basis.

Looking forward to this! Any chance of the ongoing having extras in the back of the book (besides the backup I mean). Seems like there's all kinds of neat little features and articles you could do based on this book. Plus, the trades have had a huge assortment of extra content in the back as well.

Will hawaiiandick.com be getting a makeover at all? There really seems to be zero content there right now.

I think we'll try to make room for interesting back matter, as we've done in the past (hopefully beyond pin-ups).

And I think Steven has been working on a new website, which he'll launch when he's got a few spare minutes. Very busy boy, our Aussie.
