i hope this isnt printed on shiny paper... notos work looks so much better on a thick matte paper, something with a texture to it.

At the risk of making a very stupid question... Why "cross half the globe?" Can't they fly back home?

This series will be something spacial for sure. Phil's minimalistic approach adds a very unique mood to the pages and Duggan's dialog matches it. Less is more.

Great preview guys!

Hello everybody -
I can assure there are a few very good reasons why you can't just hop on a plane or pick up a wireless and send a message. The world of the book is littered with breakdowns - both literal and figurative. I think (hope) you'll all dig the world we set in the first issue. Phil and I are having a lot of fun. I can't wait for everybody to see more of it. By the by - the pages you see above are a stand alone "trailer" we did for retailers. The first issue is 22 new pages of material, we'll probably reprint the convention preview in a trade someday.
Thanks for all your comments - the book is in September previews for a December debut on the racks.
Take care -
Gerry

I have often felt that the Odyssey should be updated to the present--so that instead of seeing it as a kind of costume drama with monsters, we could appreciate the universal theme of the long, hard journey home from war. So I'm very happy to see this.

Some scholars believe the epic poem (or was it the myth behind the epic?) originally ended with the death of Odysseus in his battle against the suitors. This was the direction that "Cold Mountain' chose. I wonder which way this comic will go...?

I notice that while the Aechaians departed Troy in victory, their counterparts here seem to have gotten bogged down in defeat (not that such a thing could ever happen to the U.S. military). It's an interesting contrast. Rather than offend Poseidon, I wonder if "The Captain's" sin (or that of the army he represents) was to offend Islam...? Just thinking.

May the muse keep on singing for you guys!

I can see that, something like the stock the recent Tank Girl book is using.

Well, this sounds interesting. I'll definitely check it out.

Edit: New West! That's where I've seen Noto's art before. I thought it looked familiar.
