As we talked to creators on the convention floor this weekend at Wizard World Chicago, one artist shared a few pages of the issue he's drawing for DC Comics.
"I'm working on an issue of
Teen Titans," said Jamal Igle, who was most recently the artist on
Nightwing. The artist showed us pages from issue #52 of
Teen Titans, which is part of the “Titans Tomorrow” storyline that Sean McKeever is writing beginning with issue #50 later this month.
"I never thought about doing
Teen Titans, but once I started doing it, I'm having a great time," Igle said. "The Titans of Tomorrow are putting our current band of heroes through the ringer."
Asked about that cover to issue #51 where the Titans of Tomorrow are shown -- including a Conner Kent dressed as Superman and an adult Bart Allen dressed as a Flash -- Igle said, "Conner and Bart are back, and they're not supposed to be there. So everybody's trying to figure out what's going on. It's a really fun story."
The issue represents his second issue with McKeever as they just worked on another project together. "I just finished the Crime Society one-shot," the artist said, referring to the
Countdown Presents The Search for Ray Palmer issue for October, which is also being written by McKeever.

Does that mean he likes working with the writer? "It's been a lot of fun. Sean's a good writer," Igle said. "He'd admitted at first that he didn't know that much about the DC Universe, but he's just gone in with gusto and buried himself in everything. There are characters popping up in this Titans arc that I hadn't even thought about in years. One or two, I was like ... who the hell is that? I had to actually go into the DC Encyclopedia and look up the characters! I was like, Oh! OK!"
Now that the artist has left
Nightwing, what will he be doing after this issue of
Teen Titans? "I'm looking forward to finishing this issue, then we'll see what happens," he said. "After that, I don't know yet. There's one thing that's hanging there but hasn't been finalized. The thing that I was kind of inching toward is on the back burner while they figure out where to put it. Once I have more details, I'll let you know."
