I really don't like this new trend of having a different artist than the interior artist drawing the main cover, and the interior artist drawing the variant. Marvel's done the same thing lately with WWHulk, making the JRjr cover the variant.

Will this issue have an actual villain for the JLA to fight?

why are the variant covers for JLA and JSA always by the actual interior artist? and when will DC stop pimping variant covers for every issue of these 2 books? for 1st issues or landmark issues, i can understand, but EVERY issue?

Isn't this one of Meltzer's last issues? Kind of going out on a whimper isn't he?

I wonder which one was easier for Turner. This one where 75% of the cover is black or the one where he just photoshopped the same 3 Red Tornadoes over and over again.

this is the worst stuff ever. i have no loyalty or gripe with specific writers or artists, honestly- but by the same time ive been reading this series- and since issue #1, it's been horrible covers, interiors, and especially script and characterization- i've been co-currently been reading the JLA trade paperbacks, which put this series to so much shame. no, i've no loyalty to grant morrison or howard porter, i follow the characters i like, not the creators- but come on. Justice League of America is ridiculous; i'm dropping it until it becomes about heroes and escapism and excellent super-hero action again.... probably wont happen, though.

I am not a fan of Turners work and would like to see less of him on covers at both DC and Marvel.

I completely agree.... & really it's a shame b/c I had such high hopes for this run... considering what I thought was a pretty decent JLA mini by Meltzer in Identity Crisis... but it wasn't to be. Instead we get Ed Benes' wannabe 1990's Image artist & the Same goes for Michael Turner's covers. Funny as I've been gifted the Morrison/Porter first 2 volumes recently & have been enjoying them immensely compared to this current run which i've already sold off all that i had bought. Shame really, just inidicates the sad state of current DC for you... what's really good right now? Countdown has me hooked but it plods along terribly, even if its soap-operatic serialized cliffhanger format keeps my curiosity piqued... I will say i've been enjoying Busiek/Pacheco's supes, Johns GL, & Morrison/Quitely's All Star Supes/... but other than that.? I'm hard pressed to come up with anything fantastic lately.
JLA is just another indicator of a book that their editorial thought looked like gold on paper, but when you see the finished product, shoulda known it wouldn't work out.
Here's hoping.

You're right, I think the prob with alot of OYL stuff is it looked like gold on paper. (but was crap in execution)
And I really REALLY hate dissing people's work, but yes, Bene's art is terrible to me, it's like 90s Image-Marvel crapesque, just doesn't "fit" something as prestigious as the Justice League, I don't think Meltzer is that impressive, and as for Turner, he can be hot and cold.. I've long thought he was a predictable artist, but sometimes, just sometimes, I think his covers are actually impressive, an example would be the current Sub-Mariner #1 cover. But for the most part, this series has been one big disapointment... DC must know it by now.

I use to be a fan of Turner's work, but over the last year or so, the work hasn't impressed me at all. Where once it was something special to have a M. Turner Cover, now its far too common place. The "new" JLofA just isn't cutting it for me, I stayed through the "Lightning Saga", but now that it's over, I'm dropping the book. Just my two cents.

All I ever saw was his pin-up type stuff and it did nothing for me, but as I said, some of his covers I've seen, have been surprises. The Lightning Saga wasn't a saga at all, at least not in JLA, all the innuendo about hooking up between characters, useage of character's first names too frequently, etc. etc. was just sorta... boring. I'll watch Melrose Place if I want to be bored. I got Justice League to be entertained.

i really like this cover.......where i understand about the gripe about the two covers for every issue of JLA....i perfer ross's covers to jsa so i like having him do the regular covers so i dotn have to pay the larger price. but thats just my taste.
but goon451.....why is this cover a whimper. i think its ingenius......makes me remember that issue of spidey where hes trapped under all that rubble.......i really like this cover for this story....but again...this is only my own taste.

You know now that the lightning saga is over I might as well save myself $6.50 and come back for McDuffie in September.

Less "bodacious" (if by bodacious one means "offensively stupid"), but still crap. Now that DC's got a good writer coming aboard in Dwayne McDuffie, maybe they could give him some decent artists to work with instead of incompetent hacks like Turner and Benes?

The real question is why companies ask Turner to draw their covers? Do they sell better? There must be something, and it can't be critical/fan based because I don't see a big movement of people asking for him to draw more covers.
The only thing he brings to the table is generic looking women with exaggerated proportions and no feet, is this his main draw? I just don't get it.

I don't actually mind Benes. I mean, yes, he has an exaggerated propensity for butt shots, but otherwise he's a pretty good artist. He just needs someone to make sure he doesn't go overboard.

Right on! But I disagree with the people who are slating Benes - I've liked his work, and I think it could have been even better with some good writing. Let's just not mention "The Lightning Saga."
