HEROES CON/WW PHILLY '07: WAID RETURNS TO FLASH
by Vaneta Rogers
They kept telling us the summer storm was coming, and as we get closer to next Wednesday, it looks like we can finally see a few flashes of lightning on the horizon.
As announced jointly by Dan Didio and Bob Wayne in Philly and Heroes Con, respectively, next week's Flash: The Fastest Man Alive #13 will be the last issue of the young series, which was just launched last year. Although DC is keeping mum about what happens in that pivotal issue, its story will act as a precursor to the announced return of Mark Waid to The Flash beginning in the fall with penciler Daniel Acuna ( Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters).
And before the Waid-penned series officially starts with new (or, technically, old) numbering -- picking up at #231 where it left off when The Flash series ended with #230 in January 2006 -- DC will release a special issue called All Flash #1 in September. Written by Waid, the issue will feature work by a slew of DC artists, including Acuna, Karl Kershl, Shane Davis and Joe Bennett.

Cool. You can replace him, but just don't kill Bart.

Jeez Louise, I hope it's Wally West under the mask. Maybe DC has decided to listen to fans, and right the mistake they made with Bart as Flash. Here's hoping for another lengthy Waid run on the character he was simply born to write. The art choice is an interesting one, if the cover is any indication. I will definitely give it a try.

Just when The Flash:The Fastest Man Alive was getting good....they are going to cancel it?
Why jump back into old numbering? Why not just start with a new #1? My guess is because it is going t be Wally West...so the makes sense.

I'll just point out that Waid's last return to the Flash wasn't very good.

yes yes yes
if this isn't an admission by DC editorial that they COMPLETELY botched the "revamp" of the Flash...
The title was unsalvageable. Too bad the writers took all the blame for this - editorial has as much blame to share in the debacle that was this title.
Note to Hollywood writers - if you're not here for the long haul, take a hike.
Note to DC - start giving writers who have paid their dues high profile books, not the Hollywood flavour of the month.

i hope it's Wally as well. Jay has got his own thing going on in JSA & it wouldn't feel like his own book with all the likely guest appearances. Barry...just let the guy stay dead. Time travel stuff with him is cool but that's about it. Bart will always be Impulse. Then again, maybe they got something planned for Barry to return. JLA/JSA is dealing with the Legion right now, maybe Barry comes back from the future or it's a multiverse thing in which he didn't die in the original Crisis......think i just gave myself a headache hehehe

Lightning Saga. LOSH from the future. Bart Allen from the same future. Ressurection lightning rods. His death might be inevitable. But maybe not long lasting if any of that ties in together.
I'd prefer Wally to come back. Barry Allen alone wouldn't get me to buy a Flash book though.

I don't know. Waid said the plans started a year ago. The current series had just begun at that time. I doubt that DC considered the relaunch a mistake back then.
While I am exited to see what Waid does with the Flash, I'm sorry to see Guggenheim leave. He made the current series really good.

That Legion isn't from the same future as Bart.

I just hope bart doesnt get killed off, i liked him as flash.
I am starting to think Barry or Wally is back and going to be on JLA while bart might go back to being Impulse as a adult in one of the future story lines of him. I like bart and to just kill him off, will be like Marvel killing off fn and great characters like Genis-Vell for no god damn reason.

I'd like it if they would start the numbering at 595.

Yeah, I was really digging Guggenheim on Flash. I've got no problem with Waid, but I feel a little bit like we're going backwards, especially since Guggenheim was hitting it out of the park. Hawkman by Gray/Palmiotti/Bennett was absolutely rocking until they decided to change the creators on that title too, and look what happened.

That would be great. If they are going to continue the numbering from an earlier version of the book anyway, they should just combine the numbering of all previous books.

I liked the current arc a ton but it probably is best for them to erase this series from existence
The first arc was possibly the worst thing I have ever read

Wait!
Waid's 5th issue would be #600 if they combined the numbering!?
Why aren't they doing this!?

This is welcomed news. Even though I had some hopes for the new Flash series, I found it to be a major letdown (from both sets of writers) and I really did not care for Bart being the newest Flash. He was just boring and I didn't not care one bit. Hopefully Waid will get this book back on track because he does have a proven track record with this title.

I'm glad to see Waid coming back, but darn it I'm loving Guggenheim's Flash. In just a few issues he had nailed this series on a level that rivals what Johns put out.
Heck, please put Guggenheim on something with Bart or The Flash. He shouldn't have to suffer for other people's mistakes.
