HEATH LEDGER JOKER REVEALED
Here was the deal – last week, “I Believe in Harvey Dent” images appeared on the internet, showing an image of actor Aaron Eckhart looking very…political. The reference, of course, the character in next year’s sequel to Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, in which Harvey Dent (who later becomes Two-Face in the Batman mythos) appears. The gimmick – the “campaign” was corrupted.
Reportedly from early on the website associated with the promo image, www.ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com was “hacked,” with Dent’s image appearing more and more defaced as time went on. Finally (and as more and more visitors to the site added their e-mails) the image of a defaced election poster for Dent disappears entirely as visitors watch, replaced by the above, the first official look at Heath Ledger as the Joker from the coming movie.
Whether or not the marketing campaign will play into the film’s storyline, connecting the Joker with Dent (or perhaps revealing that the Joker is the cause of Dent’s transformation into Two-Face in the film’s storyline), remains to be seen.
The Dark Knight is due in theaters on July 18th, 2008.

Now that is all kinds of freaky...even if he's not smiling. Something tells me there's not going to be much slapstick comedy.

That's one disturbing looking Joker! What rating is this film supposed to be, as that suggests it's not going to be all ages at all. I dread to think what two-face will look like if that's how the joker is appearing. All of which makes me think this sequel is going to be all kinds of cool.

While I understand that they don't want to go in the direction of the "cartoony" performance by Jack Nicholson, I think this is going a bit too far. I took my nephews to the last film and they loved it, but I think images like this might be a little too much for them and I'm sure other patrons will feel the same way. I'll still go and may possibly love it, but it'll be interesting to see how the non-comic community reacts to this.

Brilliant...
This is fantastic.
The image fits pefectly with the mood of the new batman films and gives us a joker to be truly scared of.
Couldn't hope for more.

This looks good. I never thought a true psycho fugitive would ever wear perfectly done make-up and wait to have colorful suits made. Joker has never seemed as scary as he should be in the comics.

If you squint, he looks like a skull.
He kinda looks like Kurtz in Apocalypse Now.
I think Dent will be quite involved in this Joker's origin.

i was going to say something negative, but as i started to, i realized no matter what i say, it just comes out as fanboy whining.
do i like the image? no
does this make me have more faith in ledger? no
do i feel anything positive from this? no
and just because someone looks 'cool,' does not make a film brilliant. this photo doesn't change the fact that ledger's in this movie.

I'm sorry, maybe this is selfish, but I think we adults need some serious movie versions of our favorite heroes. So, I am excited to see this kid-unfriendly Joker, as it means this movie might actually take itself seriously (like the first one).

I love that image. Imagine how much you would crap yourself if that was put in one of those emails that asks you to stare at an image to find the 'hidden vase of flowers' and that pops out at you at the same time you're completely engrossed?? Scary.
I think we're not giving kids enough credit here. Kids can handle scary. Kids LOVE scary. I defy any child of the 80s to not remember the scene from Return to Oz when the Witch's sleeping heads all wake up and NOT shudder like crazy...
And who doesn't fondly remember the skeksies?

I noticed the skull look as well. It makes me wonder about Joker's link to Scarecrow... remember how in the first at times the fear toxin would cause the victim to envision skull like illuminations on others?
hmm hmm

Stop whining - this is an amazing chance to get to see not one, but TWO versions/installments of Nolan's Batman? Did we ever think that we would get to see another chance to see Two Face or Joker on film?

Meh, this doesn't make me want to see the film anymore. Quite honestly, I think this image actually looks stupid. Creepy as heck? Yes, but also stupid. Mind you I never saw the first movie either, and I doubt I'm in the target audience so I doubt anyone is going to shed any tears over my opinion.

I see what they're going for and I like it.
If some maniac went insane and decided to make himself look like a clown and kill people I reckon that's pretty much what he'd look like.
This picture is just another sign for me that Nolan and co are going about bringing Batman to the screen in the right way. As if Batman Begins wasn't already clear proof of that.
Can. Not. Wait.
