[Updated] DC COMICS JULY 2007 PREVIEWS
DC has provided Newsarama a new pair of previews of titles debuting in July – Mike Carey’s new Vertigo series Faker, and the new Wildstorm series The Programme…
FAKER #1
Written by Mike Carey
Art and cover by Jock
In the numbing cold of a Minnesota winter, Jessie Kidby and her freshman friends kick off their second semester with a wild party. But in the aftermath of the big blow-out, things start to go horribly wrong for all of them. Jessie is troubled by nasty memories she's been suppressing for years, while her best friend Nick Philo has become an un-person: Nobody outside their tight-knit little clique can remember seeing him before, and his records have been erased from the college's computers. At first, it doesn't seem like a big deal, but it becomes increasingly obvious that one of them is not what he appears to be.
Chock full of ruthless characters with hidden agendas, FAKER takes place during freshman year in college; the ultimate time of reinvention, where, if you’re up for it, you can lie, cheat and fake your way through almost anything. FAKER is by the Eisner-nominated team of Mike Carey (LUCIFER, CROSSING MIDNIGHT) and Jock (THE LOSERS).
On sale July 5 • 1 of 6 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • MATURE READERS

I don't even like Green Arrow, but the art on his miniseries is beautiful!

All three items are most excellent..
But as much as I hunger for the BC and GA minis..
Silverfish is just screaming for me to buy it...and love it...

I'll definitely be trying Black Canary, if only for Ollie's generational mixup.
GA Year One i'll need to see more of before i invest.

Looks like Ollie is 13 in the Black Canary book, as if Speedy was running around in GA's costume before it was painted red.

Hey, um, these look cool and all, and not like it's a big deal, but didn't Ollie's original costume have red gloves? Or was that the old, pre-IC Earth?

Silverfish, silverfish, silverfish....
That's the only title that matters.
Although the other two aren't that shabby.

How come Batman is calling Canary and GA rookies, when Canary is a JLA founder, and was an official member before him?

I liked that early look myself and wondered the same thing.

Regarding Lapham's work ... I love it!! BUT, I'm really getting very irritated at the lack of Stray Bullet hardcovers and TPBs. I don't buy single issues anymore. Spent 20+ years as a "patron of the arts" buying single issues and then tpbs or HCs. Have spent many many thousands of dollars supporting artists such as Lapham and buying their stuff twice. But, Lapham's refusal to continue what he started with, the over size hardcovers, is very frustrating. I apologize if there are good reasons for the end of the SB HCs, but frankly I'm very disapointed in him. He's not at the Martin Wagner (Hepcats) level ... but there aren't too many comics folks that I'd put between them (much to my distress.)
Hoping to be proven wrong,
TimK

Cool preview for BC. Siqueira's art looks great. His women are beautiful (and Canary is the star after all) but he's damn good at drawing everything else. Funny bit with "That was my mom!!".

Love the Art for Black Canary but on page one, even being a super-archer i'd think you'd rip all the skin off the back of your forearm shooting the bow like that!
(yes i know it's just a comicbook... )

Is she still though? I thought they reverted back to Wonder Woman being a founder and her joining later? Aw hell...who knows anymore. This is why we need DC to do a new Who's Who!

No in the 52 JLA origin, it confirmed that Wonder Woman and Black Canary are both founders of the league.

I would be on board for GA Year One, but it looks pretty damn slow-paced (about as glacial as the backdrop), so I'm gonna give that a pass. Curious to hear what others think, though.

How (and more importantly WHY) do people keep up with this crap? This kind of continuity porn is what is rapidly turning me off to DC books these days. I feel like you need a PhD in DC history just to read them- I mean, 52, as good as it is, is pretty impenetrable sometimes, and Crisis was absolute crap if you haven't been reading DC religiously for the past 50 years.

Funny thing...I think Bedard seems to have written something very Gail-like in that preview.

Does continuity really matter if what is between the front cover and back cover is good?

HERETIC! BLASPHEMER!
I agree.
Both the BC and GA books look good. I await the inervitable trade with anticipation. Sequeira's art has really matured since he frist took over BoP. I always thought Ollie's origin was abit blah. Here's hoping Diggle does something interesting with it.
Loved Stray bullets. Silverfish is definitely on my list.
