LAURENCE FISHBURNE TO VOICE THE SILVER SURFER
Like he was that far away from the look with The Matrix’s Morpheus…
According to Variety, Laurence Fishburne will provide the voice of the Silver Surfer in this summer’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer movie. According to the trade, the earlier rumors that Fishburne would be the voice of Galactus was incorrect, as its yet to be decided if Galactus will even speak.
What’s also unclear is what form Galactus will take in the film – or if Galactus will even appear in the film, as there have been conflicting reports that the “eater of worlds” will not appear at all in the film, or that he may appear, but as a storm cloud (perhaps more homage to Marvel’s “Ultimate” version of the character).

Well, I think Fishburne is a good choice.
I'm sure hoping that they slapped him up in a silver-suite and shot some screens in a blue-screen with him tho, so as to give both him and the actors something to work with, instead of just a 3d-character.

Actually, they had Doug Jones (Abe Sapien from Hellboy and the faun from Pan's Labyrinth) do the body work.

What, it's not David Hyde-Pierce?
Fishburne has a smooth, resonant voice which works well for the Surfer. Now, about this rumored completely asinine decision to depict Galactus as a cloud-like being...

You must decide Johny Storm...Red pill or Blue pill.
I don't know, I kind of think of Surfer having a softer voice with like an ethereal, lyrically edge to it. But don't get me wrong, Fishburne is awesome. But if Fishburne were to play any comic character it should be, hands down: Batman. He would be perfect as the Bruce Wayne side because of his elegant and charming swagger but he also can portray a dark, forceful side which would represent Bats perfectly!

That's a good choice. I personally think the film will focus on the Silver Surfer, he'll then turn to the side of humanity after battling and seeing how the FF stand up and defend their homeworld. Something he didn't quite do. But after the great battles with the FF and their alliance a new threat will appear in the last reel... Surfer then explains this is why he's here as a herald to the end of the world. Now the five of them, must join forces to stop Galactus, which I really, really hope isn't a giant cloud.
Just a thought as you only have 90 minutes or so to tell the story and include all the stupid kiddie crap.

That's... interesting. I never really thought about a black actor playing Batman, but y'know, now that you mention it, I kinda dig it!

I think it could work if Galactus was actually a cloud like being. However it should be like Gozer the destructor from the first Ghostbusters, where epending on the mass consciousness of the society, it chooses a visual form we could comprehend. In our case it would be the Kirby classic Galactus.

Fishburne is an awesome choice for the Surfer's voice.
As for Galactus, if it was me making the movie I would have him appear at the very end.
Picture the end of the incredibles, or even Pirates 2 with barbosa. He shows up, all the hero's look to the sky and cue the credits.
That is what I am hoping for.

I still don't understand why the Silver Surfer would be the villain of the movie or why he would appear appear without Galactus. The real Marvel 616 Galactus should appear in this movie and be the villain. I would have preferred if Laurence Fishburne was the voice of Galactus.

Poor Doug Jones. First they took his Abe Sapien voice away to go for a "name" actor, and now this. I think Doug himself would have done a magnificent voice for the Surfer.

Yeah, a few years back I was talking with some friends about who should act as what comic character and of course Batman was discussed and I thought about all the criteria for Batman and Fishburne matched it all. As to the issue of race, I personally would love to see Fishburne as Batman because he matches the character so well, and if this were to happen and if it were to be accepted on societal scale I think that that would be a rather large triumph for man. I know, a pretty heavy statement and one that may seem trivial, but I would suggest that it would bode to us well that if us, as a people, were able to take an iconic character, a character who is identifiable at some level to most everyone, that we could take that character and have him or her portrayed in a manner that represented what it is we find truly iconic about the character. Meaning; what makes Batman and Icon? His diverse involvement in many forms of media, his complex and unique darker origin, themes of loss and grief discussed thoroughly, and the idea of an everyman, vigilante-upholding one persona, one which most would strive for, the millionaire playboy, but using that persona only as a mask to hide his true identity, a person who desires and needs to protect those that are innocent….and of course many others, these are of course just my humble opinions and I’m sure everyone has their own list but if you had everyone write up their list of what they thought made the dark knight iconic, I can almost assure you that not on of them would put down “he is iconic because he is white.” Race has know bearing or effect, and I think that we may have gotten to that point in our every progressing desire to evolve and better ourselves as humans, that we indeed are now able to see past race, recognizing its utter irrelevance, and rather see the man…the icon…The Batman.
Okay it was all pretty good to that last bit…I kinda geeked out there, but none the less, thanks for your insight on it, I had fun typing this all out.

My big question is why call it "The Rise of the Silver Surfer"? He obviously decends from the sky, not rise up out of the earth. Is it because he is going to 'rise' against Galactus? Doesn't that just give the ending away? Will they take some 'Ultimate' plot points, like the surfer cult that rose up around the multiple surfers? Perhaps 'Arrival' or 'Decent' would have been better. Any title suggestions?

I would be disappointed if Galactus wasn't done as the 616 version although they could go with the "cloud" option so that it won't be as scary for the tons of kids that will be watching the film. But they really should know by now if the Big G is in it. My anticipation for the film got severely dampened whenever I heard that most of it was rewritten to accommodate more lines for Jessica Alba.
Fishburne is a decent choice though.
