That's an enourmous amount of trades to tell this story. Having read only Civil War-related stuff in the titles I already buy (Cap, Thunderbolts), what is required reading? There's no way in hell I'm buying 21 trades.

Nothing is "required" obviously, but I highly recommend the following CW trades:
- Captain America
- New Avengers
- Amazing Spider-Man

Yeah SIms is right in recommending those. Also I thought Wolverine was a very good read especially if you like Humberto Ramos and if you read either Runaways or Young Avengers you should get that trade even though it has little to do with CW itself.

Punisher War Journal is a great choice too.

I would recommend Peter Parker: Spider-Man. While it has nothing to do with the main Civil War itself, it has a selection of great stories about Peter's unmasking and about how it features other people in his life.
I would also recommend the Iron Man trade as it has some of they few issues that actually show Tony Stark and the Pro-Reg in a good light as well as offering valid points for registration.

I already pre-ordered CIVIL WAR: IRON MAN VS CAPTAIN AMERICA from Amazon, but I guess it was later split into separate trades for each - wonder why they haven't notified me...
EDIT: Nope, they still list the Cap vs. IM one, and a separate Cap one with the same CA issues and the Winter Soldier one-shot, but no CW: IM trade.

Marvel seems to have missed out SHE-HULK vol 4: LAWS OF ATTRACTION, which collects the official CIVIL WAR tie-in, along with the subsequent stories that also tie in with Civil War. The Cable & Deadpool and X-Factor tie-in collections are also omitted (although the Civil War tie-in issues are also oddly collected in the listed X-MEN UNIVERSE title which might explain this).

Woooh! That's a lot of stuff! Still I only read half of them as comicbooks so I'll look forward to purchasing the rest to go on my bloated bookshelf! Especially looking forward to reading Punisher and War Crimes! I'm pleased that the Underworld mini-series is seeing a reprint here, I can't find the rest of the single issues anywhere!

It's strange the books that Marvel deemed worthy of hardcover status. MS. MARVEL V.2 gets a hardcover while the CIVIL WAR proper and CIVIL WAR: FRONTLINE books only get trade paperbacks?! I can only conclude that Marvel is going to re-release a deluxe edition HC with perhaps CIVIL WAR and CIVIL WAR: FRONTLINE collected together in an oversized edition?

I can see each getting the deluxe HC treatment, but not combined. Don't their deluxe HCs only have a max of about 14 books in them? The two titles combined would be more than 20, wouldn't they (I can't recall how many issues Frontline ran).

Is that Mike San Giacomo credited as a writer for CIVIL WAR COMPANION? Is this the same guy who contributes to Newsarama? If so, when did he become a Marvel freelancer?
I ask because I think it's funny that Marvel quotes him as if he's a neutral 3rd-party reporter in their press release for the CIVIL WAR TPB:
Quote:

Michael San Giacomo, of Newsarama.Com exclaimed, "Damn, he's good" of Millar's writing, continuing, "Mark Millar does for Marvel Civil War what he does for Ultimates. And that's pretty amazing."

He couldn't be more wrong with his Civil War/Ultimates comparison though...

Fetsur, She-Hulk v2 #8 will be collected in the "Civil War: Marvel Universe" TPB.
Pop-Monkey, books like Ms. Marvel and New Avengers are getting MPE HC editions because the previous volumes in their collected series were also MPE HCs. Same with Punisher War Journal -- they plan to solicit all of its upcoming collections in MPE format, so they're doing the same here.
So, sadly, you can't automatically assume that because some Civil War tie-ins are getting HCs, that the main CW book will also get a HC.
(Heck, Avengers Disassembled JUST got a HC, two years after the issues came out, and House of M hasn't gotten one yet ... Civil War may yet get a HC edition, but it might be a long wait.)

When a crossover's trades need a checklist, you know it's a tad excessive.

Actually... YES! But you don't have to buy all of them.
And I think they should inform us the issues that are in every paperback.

Sure, but the She-Hulk collection is already there, and it collects other CW-relevant stuff that's not available in those other TPBs...

Go to a site like www.instocktrades.com
And you actually save a LOT of cash over buying the single issues.
Just a friendly thought for those on a budget or who skipped certain mini's.

11 for Front Line, 7 for Civil War proper. So...18 books, which actually wouldn't be so bad for a single hardcover.

What about Moon Knight and Blade? The had tie ins too with Civil War. You would think that Civil War: Marvel Universe would have all those tie in issues that only had one or two issues involved with Civil War.
