SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #1

From Marvel

Spider-Man’s life changing Back In Black story continues in a very special issue of Sensational Spider-Man, so special it needed extra pages! In Sensational Spider-Man Annual #1, both Peter Parker and Mary Jane are faced with major decisions that will affect everyone in their lives. How far will Peter go to save Aunt May? Will Mary Jane be able to survive this life of deception and secrets much longer? Will a person from Mary Jane's romantic past force her to reconsider her future as Spider-Man's wife? Written by rising star Matt Fraction (Immortal Iron Fist, Punisher War Journal) and featuring art from Salvador Larroca (newuniversal), including Romita-esque flashback sequences that you need to see to believe, this Annual is nothing short of, well, sensational.

Marvel urges retailers to check their orders on Sensational Spider-Man Annual #1, which continues the sold-out Back In Black storyline and ups the ante for the wallcrawler.

Marvel is also pleased to announce that Sensational Spider-Man #36 has sold out at Diamond. This sell out means that all “Back In Black” issues released thus far have sold out at Diamond, the latest in a long line of recent successes for the wall crawler. There are no plans to go back to press at this time, though copies may still be available at local retailers.

FROM JOE FRIDAYS WEEK #42

Quote:
I have a question about Amazing Spider-Man #539. The issue states that Peter gave up the black costume because it represented a dark time in his life. And he didn't like the message it sent. Reading Amazing Spider-Man #300, I understood Peter to give up the black suit because Mary Jane was hurt by Venom and she was scared to see Peter in the same suit. Will this be addressed in coming issues of Amazing?

JQ: Let’s go to the source!

J. Michael Straczynski: Precisely, which is why I'm being careful in the writing to make sure she either never sees the black suit, or sees it only rarely. It's meant to intimidate others, not her, so he's being discreet about it. If that whole period didn't represent a dark time in Spidey's life, I can't imagine what would.

Looks like not everyones on the same page...

Wow, that art looks simply incredible. He really captured an old style feel.

Normally, I wouldn't even have considered getting this, as I don't get Sensational;

now, I think I'll pick it up.

Kind of par for the course, isn't it? Why be consistent when you can be lazy and uncommunicative instead?

Marvel is like Lost's Craphole Island. Nobody talks to one another and everyone thinks they're just doing great

Don't suppose anyone considered it might be a flashback? Gwen Fricking Stacy is in this book.

The scenes with Gwen are a flashback. But it's a good bet that the parts with Peter swinging around holding MJ and not wearing a mask are current day/post-CW. There's no other good reason for him to be showing his face while in costume.

Mary Jane is NOT wearing her wedding ring. Ergo, it's a flashback.

Oddly enough, that's pretty much exactly my feelings.

I don't really care for the Back In Black stuff so far, but I've decided that until I actually read something from him that I *don't* totally enjoy, if it's written by Matt Fraction, I'm in.

(Is that really his real name, though? It sounds like a secret identity for an Electric Company style Math Man or something. Not that there's anything wrong with that...)

If looks like a really interesting issue with Pete and MJ having a swing around the city. Seems like a slice of life issue, just like the Baseball game issues in Uncanny. I bet it'll be pretty good.

Thumbs up

I'm not really a fan of the style that Larroca uses in NewUniversal, but I am loving it here. Fraction always seems to deliver the goods these days so it looks like this book will be a great read. Can't wait!

doubt it she may have had to sell her ring because of the lack of funds they seem to have as well as the hospital bills for May
