MARVEL ANNOUNCES CIVIL WAR CHRONICLES - UPDATED
Press Release
Arriving in April, Marvel Comics is proud to present a collection of the critically acclaimed, best-selling event that changed the Marvel Universe forever—Civil War. Written by acclaimed scribe Mark Millar and with art by the superstar artist Steve McNiven, Civil War is the Marvel event that captivated comic fans new and old, garnering mainstream attention from programs such as The Colbert Report and making headlines on CNN, ABC and other networks with the shocking end to issue #2, Civil War is the limited series that redefines the meaning of “event.”
With over 10 million copies of Civil War comics sold, there’s no doubt that it is the largest selling event in recent memory, but the acclaim for this Marvel event has not stopped pouring in. “In the end though, this series stayed true to the promise of delivering some of the biggest moments in Marvel’s history,” said Kenneth Gallant of BrokenFrontier.com.
Added Michael Bailey of SilverBulletComicBooks.com, “I am really psyched about this series...Millar and company delivered the goods."
Michael San Giacomo, of Newsarama.com exclaimed, “Damn, he’s good” of Millar’s writing, continuing, “Mark Millar does for Marvel Civil War what he does for Ultimates. And that’s pretty amazing.”
The art by Steve McNiven received universal acclaim, with Jason Grasso of ComixFan saying, “The attention to detail given to the large group encounters is mind-blowing, scenes that in the hands of other artists tend to blur beyond a few key characters in the foreground.”
Fans will also be able to experience Civil War in a brand new way with each issue of Civil War Chronicles, which presents every issue of the Civil War event in chronological order, allowing readers to see the nuances of this epic tale in the order they occurred. Featuring two Civil War tales per issue, Chronicles will show you a new side of comic books’ biggest event of the decade.
With almost all the issues of Civil War sold out at Diamond, this is the best way to experience the superhero event that still has fans talking and has brought the largest mainstream media spotlight in a decade. If you still don’t know the answer to “Whose Side Are You On?” then it’s time to pick up the collection that will give you the answer.

So is this reprinting everything including all the tie-ins, or just Civil War and Frontline?

At 192 pages there's no way this can have enough room to reprint anything other than just the main Civil War series. The story pages in that alone had to have been around 175-180 pages.

I think they're talking about two different things here:
The Civil War TPB, and a new series called "Civil War Chronicles" that reprints two issues in one and releases them all in chronological order.
So basically they're reprinting the entire Civil War saga again and releasing it as a "new" series.
Could they possibly milk this thing any more? Short of the inevitable "Omnibus" edition?

Probably a 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th and then 25th year anniversary edition.

It's like some of you didn't even read the article.
This is a new series of floppies reprinting the entire Civil War event in order. Each issue of Chronicles will collect two issues together.
The little solicitation blurb at the end for the Civil War trade has nothing to do with Civil War Chronicles.

No kidding. Is Chronicles going to be a reprint miniseries or a series of trades collecting all the Civil War tie-ins as well, the way the old CrossGen titles did?

I wonder if they'll be any changes a la Infinite Crisis? Perhaps a clear definition of just what the Superhero Registration Act actually means would be a fun add in...

I think an omnibus would have been a great idea for fans of the series, but why republish it in flopies?

I'll bet money a lot of this is for folk who came in because of "Death of Cap", and who joined in late because of the acclaim.
But you know what, more power to them. If it sells then why the Hell not- it's not like a load more tie-ins which you have to buy if you want every comic, it's just reprinting for those who haven't enjoyed it yet.

Do they change the ending? Where Cap don't wuss out and sacrifice lives just to surrender to that neo-Nazi fascist tony stark and his stormtroopers?
That's the only way I'm buying this "acclaimed" event. They must have only asked people on Marvels' payroll for all that acclaim.

This has to be released in volumes becuase I can't see the CW mini & frontline in one book much less all the meaningless tie ins and oneshots. CW was a big expensive mess for me. Many of the one shot's were pointless and a waste, it seems like Marvel tried to weave a giant story like DC is doing and Marvel doesn't have the talent to pull that off, Dido did an astounding job of pulling the best talent in comics together.

I'm just gonna come out and say it; I'm exclusively a DC reader. Other than the occasional issue of Cable and Deadpool or Astonishing X-Men it's rare for me to read anything published by Marvel. As a result of that, I missed out on all the Civil War hullaballoo. I'm tempted by the idea of having the main series, Front Line and some tie-ins all included in chronological order in one book. With Fallen Son coming, and now this, Marvel may open up to me a little.

To think I was worried about Comics flyng from event to event! Now we have a much worse situation, a comic publisher flying from event to the same event!
Are we all ready for the multimedia outings for Civil War?
Ulitimate Avengers 3 :Civil War
Marvel Ultimate Alliance: Civil War
and Obviously the Marvel legends Civil War figures?

I guess when you have a cash cow like Civil War was, you milk it until it runs dry or you kill the cow, whichever comes first. I am so sick of hearing about Civil War at this point and just want to move on. I can't see there really being a demand for this. Anyone that was into Civil War picked it up during the 12 months that it took for the 7 issues to come out.

Save your money. I can summon up Civil War for you in a short paragraph.
Many superheroes take sides, arguing with each other over whether or not to be a team player with the government. Massive battles and carnage ensues, useless superhero dies (Goliath). One final battle leads to...nothing. America's greatest hero turns himself in and gets killed.
All in all, overhyped "event" that ultimately keeps Marvel's stockholders happy, at least until everyone gets bored again over the next several years after the "initiative". Then we will see another major "event" that will "forever change the Marvel Universe as you know it". We've seen this many times with both Marvel and DC. BTW, there's that big X-Men event coming up later this year that forever change that status quo of our merry Marvel Mutants...

Actually, Mike, that was one of the bad things about Civil War. It basically turned the regular Marvel Universe into the Ultimates. And that's not good at all.
