BATMAN LEGO VIDEOGAME COMING IN 2008

Videogame players will have another title to place beside their copies of Lego STar Wars games. According to Variety, Warner Bros. has signed to produce a Lego Batman videogame, to be developed by TT Games, which also developed Lego Star Wars.

According to the trade, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will fully finance and publish the game itself, as well as handle all distribution in North America.

The game will follow the Lego Star Wars model, that is, all the characters and sets will be constructed of Lego pieces. More than likely, the games will follow in the successful footsteps of the two Lego Star Wars installments, which have sold several millions of copies, not only to the younger set, but also to adult gamers, due to the games’ charm, gameplay, and sense of humor.

A 2008 release is planned, more than likely in time with the release of The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins, which is due out on July 18, 2008.

Lego currently has a license to produce Batman toys and playsets made from Legos, and is on its second wave of figures and sets.

Official Press Release

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games will bring LEGO® BATMAN™: THE VIDEOGAME to next-generation and current generation platforms and the PC in 2008 with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment serving as the game’s North American publisher, including all sales and distribution functions.

In LEGO BATMAN: THE VIDEOGAME, TT Games brings the world of DC Comics’ Caped Crusader to life in an entirely new way. Players can explore a richly interactive LEGO Gotham City as Batman and Robin, capturing infamous villains – and even take control of the villains themselves.

“Batman spans several generations as one of the most popular DC Super Heroes, and LEGO BATMAN will appeal to several generations of gamers who grew up idolizing the Dark Knight and playing with LEGO toys,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Development and Production, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Working with TT Games, we are confident they will continue their LEGO games’ success with this title, and we will expand our publishing endeavors with the introduction of the LEGO BATMAN franchise.”

“We’re sure our fans will be excited to know that we have the same fantastic team at Traveller’s Tales responsible for LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Star Wars II working on LEGO BATMAN,” said Tom Stone, Director of TT Games Publishing.

“There’s a special magic to the LEGO incarnation of Batman that makes him accessible to a younger generation of his fans," said Paul Levitz, President, DC Comics. “We look forward to the videogame version extending this fantasy.”

The LEGO BATMAN: THE VIDEOGAME story unfolds with Batman’s greatest foes escaping from Arkham Asylum and creating mayhem throughout Gotham City. Tracking criminals, including The Joker and The Penguin, players will utilize Batman’s gadgets as well as build and operate fantastic vehicles in one or two player cooperative gameplay.

This is great!

I geeked out and bought all the Batman Lego sets on Ebay after passing the Star Wars games and to relive a little youth and I was just wondering not too long ago when they were going to make a Batman game to follow the Star Wars ones.

I'm only a little surprised. They said they were going to do more franchises after the immense success of the Lego Star Wars games. Personally, I figured it'd be Harry Potter (Especially considering what perfect timing it would have on a release this summer). Considering the fact the Lego Star Wars games were so startlingly fun in their simplicity, I'll definitely check this out. Peg me as the first one hoping there's a spot where Bane "breaks" Lego Batman.

Batman should have a Lego game!

I want to see a Lego version of "A Death in the Family" where Lego Joker tries to bash Lego Robin's head in with a Lego crowbar, but Lego Joker gets tired because the plastic crowbar can't damage the plastic head of Robin...

There was a very good one, but this was years and years and ago...
It was developed by Ocean, and i played it a lot in my old ZX Spectrum.

The Lego Star Wars video games were alot of fun to play. great game play and very simple humor. I hope they are able to make the Batman games the same.

The Star Wars ones are great, and a Batman game could definitely be fantastic!

Huzzah! Hopefully the same dedication is shown to this as was shown the Star Wars games. I demand three playable Robins, 2 Batgirls, etc.

Wouldn't it be awesome if the thing were divided into eras? Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, Modern Age?

I think the last good ones were Batman Returns and The Adventures of Batman and Robin on the SNES.

Who did the Batman Returns one, do you remember?
Wasn't it Ocean as well?
Wasn´t there an atrocious version of it for the Sega CD?

lego star wars II

Speeking of Lego SW. I quit playing it because I'm stuck on episode one door 4. There is a room with several swing lines and a machine that you raise up and down. I done everything I can think of but can't get beyond this room. Any help (besides "use the force") would be appreciated. Fun game to play with me nine year old son by the way.

Yeah...I'm good on it...even if the Star Wars Legos games were only pointless fun.

I haven't played Lego II yet only the first one but gamefaqs is a great site for player made walkthroughs. Below is a link to one I think should help you.

people are going to get bored with these games if they keep coming out as the same game with different characters...i played the first lego star wars, and it was good for what it was, but couldnt justify buying the next one to play the exact same game but with different skins...i am afraid they will run this concept into the ground, and it will become "just another comic book video game franchise killer..."

The levels were much longer and a little more difficult. Plus, you could make your own characters. It was hardly the same game with different skins.

The Lego Star Wars games are available on PC, so hopefully this one will be too.

Considering you're on the internet, I'd assume you do. Both Lego Star Wars games came out on PC, as well. Plus, considering the fact the PS2 is still selling, I wouldn't be surprised if they put a graphically gimped port on there.
