NOVA #1
From Marvel
In the wake of the Annihilation wave, can one man truly protect the entire universe? In the new ongoing series Nova, writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning (Annihilation: Nova), and artist Sean Chen (Sensational Spider-Man) will answer that question. Straight from the pages of Annihilation and Annihilation: Nova, the story of Richard Rider, the man known as Nova, continues.
With every other member of the Nova Corps killed during the events of Annihilation, Nova is now the sole survivor of the Nova Corps, and the bearer of nearly limitless power. Even with the power of the entire corps, can he alone police the entire universe? Furthermore, as he fights to continue the work of the Nova Corps, will he lose sight of his place on Earth? And his former teammates and friends?
Speaking of former teammates, you cannot miss Initiative tie-ins in Nova #2 and #3 when Rich Rider learns of the death of the New Warriors and comes face-to-face with Iron Man and the Thunderbolts. When Rich learns that his former New Warriors teammate known as Speedball is now the T-Bolt Penance, it won’t be pretty.
Strap yourself in as writers Dan Abnett, Lanning, and Chen take you for a ride that will span the entire Marvel Universe, and will prove that one man really can make a difference. Featuring covers by acclaimed Iron Man cover artist Adi Granov.

Sean has been a long time fave of mine, since his Valiant days.
Here's hoping that this is the one that does it for him!

Great preview. DnA have a nice grasp of Rich's character, Chen's art looks perfect and so does Granov's cover. I just hope there's enough fan support to keep this series going for a loooong while.

Not a big fan of the art or costume, but I like the character enough to try out this first issue.

Nova is no longer the punk kid that we all thought he was in the 90s. Good to see he got some respect.

SWEET!
I can't tell you how cool it is gettin' a new NOVA monthly.
DnA have been pretty good so far and I'm lookin' forward to seein' what they have in store for us.
Chen's art is always cool and it almost makes me like the new uniform.
The ONLY real complaint I have is the dumbass smoke coming outta his chest. That needs to go.

Very cool. Hopefully they have some nice hook in issue one to keep people, who aren't Nova fans, picking up the book. Cause man it looks great.

Ok but after that, get him off of earth, into space and away from all the spandex please.

Hm. DnA seem to be specialists in grimmifying and grittifying young heroes.
Not sure that was a good thing to do with Legion. Might work better here.
(Smoke? I thought those were headlights on his chest...they're lighting the smoke that's already there....)

They seem like rocket ports spewing smoke to me.
Either way,I don't particularly care for the effect.

His book crosses over with the Annihilation sequel, and the main thrust of the book, as they've let on, is that he's on his own out there. Plus I wouldn't count on him getting a warm welcome back home, so yeah, he should be space-bound for awhile.

This looks great! I am so glad that Nova is finally getting a series that takes the character seriously. Abnett and Lanning have really progressed this character and set him on a new direction that I am loving. Also, as much as I dislike when series have tie-ins so close to their launch, I am glad it's happing with Nova. I hope the tie-ins to Initiate bring in some readers who decide to stick around. And right after that, it's into Annihilation: Conquest. Nova is going to be a busy, busy guy this year!
Oh... and how come I am not seeing this on the front page? This definately should be there.

I've already got this one ordered -- I can't wait. I hope we get an Essential Nova Vol.2 sometime soon.
Oh, and, yeah ... he's only on Earth for 2 issues. Hopefully, it's enough time to kick Iron Man's and the Tbolts butts before heading back to space. Just my little personal hope ...

Honestly I think this is the best art a solo NOVA series has ever had. Not completely sold on the costume either but it's not awful and I got used to it quickly enough in the ANNIHILATION storyline. And I've always like Rich since I first read a Marvel Two-In-One (Annual??) with him in it from the 80s. Didn't care for Erik Larsen's attempt to regress the character from his 90s growth in New Warriors (phenomenal art by both Bagley and Robertson).
DnA are terrific writers and Chen's art looks great (costume tweaks aside) so I'm really, really excited about this new book. The trip home to Earth and going up against both Iron Man and (former teammate Speedball) Penance sounds great (maybe a decent scene involving Rich's grief over Namorita too) and then tying into the Annihilation sequel after that should give the series some momentum to pull in decent numbers. Now it's just up these creators to use their talents and put out a quality book.
I wouldn't mind the occasional "Blue Blazes!" either. :-)

This is definately one of my most anticipated series this year. Really looking forward to it. Also I'm digging the costume too but I like the headlights-look over the smoking-exhaust-look.

First Nova had a...oh, let's call it a..."stunning similarity" to the GL Corps, except the kid who got the powers literally fell into them, not because he was the best or bravest or anything.
Then Kyle Rayner gets his powers literally because he was in the right place at the right time, not because he was the best or bravest or anything.
Then Kyle became the only GL in the universe, and had all of the power available to him, and had to learn how to cope with it.
Now Nova is the only Nova in the Universe, and has all the power available to him, and has to learn how to cope with it.
And y'all are still obsessing over the X-Men/Doom Patrol coincedences?
I don't suppose Richard Rider has an eskimo sidekick, does he?
